Both OnGenWeb and OGSPI have indexes of various townships whose 1851 censuses have survived. These have been done by volunteers and are available on the web, free to use. I am sorry not to have added links here, but both organizations can be found easily on Google. /cheers Pat -----Original Message----- From: can-ont-simcoe-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:can-ont-simcoe-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Sent: 22 August 2007 18:46 To: CAN-ONT-SIMCOE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CAN-ONT-SIMCOE] 1851 Census This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Likely you know they appear in Essa in 1891 (Settlers Database at Simcoe Co. Branch OGS also on 1901 and 1911 censii at Automated Genealogy. Isabella (born 25 May 1857) died 05 Jan 1928 in Essa Twp. and is to have been buried at Ivy. Death is reported by her brother Andy Corbett of Thornton and states her parents as David and Isabella (Cunningham) Corbett. As Isabella's death reg. shows her as married, not widowed, could Richard have died after 1932--to late to show on Ancestry--but also be buried at Ivy? Sadly, this cemetery does not appear on the OGS or OCFA listings nor can I pinpoint a transcript at SCBOGS Perhaps the 'ask a librarian' service at Barrie Public Library would have a newspaper listing of Richard's death? Please let me know if you need any originals from Ancestry. Regards Jani Carless pjcarless@hotmail.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi Lynne, Thank you for the lookup. Yes I did have this, and was able to connect with the family in Michigan. Incidentally there is a Summersett street in Angus, presumably named after this hotel/family. The family was pleased to hear this. Hi Nancy: You may have this but, just in case you don't, thought I would send it along. Janet Brawley, d/o James and Mary, age 28, residence Angus, b. Essa, spinster, married Seth Summersett/Sommersett, widower, age 34, Hotelkeeper, both Methodist, in Barrie in 1890. They are on the 1891 census in Essa Township with children Frank, 1 and Eliza 1/12. Seth is still a Hotelkeeper. I found the children's birth registrations (both registered in 1891). Edgar Frank Watson was born in 1889 and Mary Elizabeth in 1891. Father is a Hotelkeeper in Angus. I didn't find your Bertha on the Wesleyan Methodist baptisms but there were some Broley's (try various spellings) you might like to check. Here is the URL for them. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~wjmartin/wm-index.htm Hope this is of some help to you. Regards, Lynne. > > Mary Rebecca is in the 1881 census with surname Braley with her parents> > James & Mary in Essa twp. Author: lalonder1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.ontario.simcoe/2524/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Looking for the parents of this couple. According to the 1881 Canada census for Muskoka Co, Ontario, Catherine was born about 1833 in Ontario and was of french descent. She is listed with her children but not her husband Alexander McKay. Their children were Edouard, Alexander, John, James, William, Elizabeth (my great grandmother), Agnes, and David. At least 2 children were born in Penetanguishene, Simcoe Co, Ont and some of the children were married in Byng Inlet, Parry Sound Co, Ont. Most records for the children were found in parish records of Wikwemikong Mission on Manitoulin Island (there was a "travelling" Jesuit there), but I haven't been able to find the marriage of Catherine and Alexander. Any help greatly appreciated!!! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Pearson Spinster age 38 died 29 November 1874 at Barrie, of tuberculosis (I think she might be the aunt of my grandfather) Neil Pearson married, merchant age 26 died 27 March 1917 at Staynor son of James Pearson and Catherine McEchern (and who are they?) Henry Pearson born about 1859 died 17 November 1885 at Vespra of typhoid age 26 years Henrrietta Pearson born 1860 died 11 March 1894 at Barrie age 34 years George Pearson born about 1847 at Uxbridge died August 1928 worked on railroad son of John Pearson and Sarah Brown Father of Richard Pearson of Innisfil buried Barrie Union Cemetery -now this guy is confusing me. My greatgrandfather was a Richard Pearson of Innisfil who died before 1861. HIS father was Robert. Could there be a possibility that this George was the brother of Robert? We know that the name George carries across every generation of the family but we are stumped at the origin at this generation of Pearson men Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Nancy, I actually found a delayed birth registration on Ancestry.ca for my gran's brother who was born in 1906 and the birth registration was registered in 1952 and signed by my great grandmother. I was not expecting to see something so recent, but was grateful at the time... my message is that it's worth checking any source, even ancestry. You never now what you will find. Nancy Leveque Kevin & Nancy Caldwell <edenvaleph@sympatico.ca> wrote: Does anyone know how to go about finding a late birth registration in Ontario. I've seen some registered several years later (birth-1898 but registered in 1948). It obviously wouldn't appear in the birth index nor on Ancestry so how could I find it? Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.
