Hi Patricia You might see my post today on the family of Richard and Mary Ann RUSSELL. I see they're in your database, at the link below. I'll certainly take a look at all the entries for this name, and I'm sure I'll learn a few things. One curiosity is that Job RUSSELL, as he was registered at birth in England, b. 1844, baptised 17 Nov 1844, West Lydford, seems to have been known as Job Byron RUSSELL in Canada. I've not seen this before, and I no idea where the 'Byron' bit came from. It's somewhat easier to explain Elizabeth's middle name of 'Kimber'. It's from her grandmother, Elizabeth KIMBER, who married Richard's father George. Great work, and thanks for sharing it with me. List members may recall a post from me on July 28, when I asked for information on George & Jane WALKER. In a single day I was inundated with information; it was a most amazing experience. I've just discovered tonight that another of my 'families' emigrated from Somerset, England to Medonte Twp, Simcoe County. This was about 1850, and it involves a younger sister of my G3 grandfather. She was Marianne WALKER, or Mary Ann in Canada. The family was as follows (with birth years in Richard RUSSELL (1809) Mary Ann RUSSELL, nee WALKER (1815) Joseph RUSSELL (1837) Charles RUSSELL (1839) Elizabeth Kimber RUSSELL (1841) Edwin RUSSELL (1843) Job RUSSELL (1844) Eli RUSSELL (1847) William Walker RUSSELL (1849) Thanks to this list I had a few links to try, and sure enough I find references to members of this family. The Simcoe County Branch's Settlers Database is excellent. It has the entire family except for Mary Ann, and I have no explanation for that. It would seem that Richard was allocated (or he acquired) Lot 13e Concession 10 in Medonte Twp. I've also identified some burials using the OGS website. Sadly the OCFA does not appear to have transcribed headstones for St George's Fairvalley. Does anyone have any connections to this family, or have any information that would help me to put the pieces together? I see 3 names that were not part of the family that emigrated - James (1852), Mary Ann (1856), and Jemima (1858). I wonder if these were children of Richard & Mary Ann, and born in Medonte. Any information from this List would be gratefully accepted. It's amazing to find 2 families emigrating to the same township. In fact, another of my brick walls is the family of James WALKER and Anna THOMAS, and their children Susan and James. The parish registers of West Lydford, Somerset, England note on the same page as the RUSSELLs that they are emigrating. I wonder if they too went to Canada, to Simcoe, and to Medonte. I search for them. Kind regards Kevin Walker France

I found information about my family in the Assessment Rolls at the Simcoe County Archives just north of Barrie. They are not online and you have to view the microfilms there, but I found records of my Cameron family in Oro starting in 1853 as well as their neighbours and other Camerons. They were done yearly so you can see if the family moved on. Some years they noted the number in the household and religion as well as the farm location. Each township and municipality have their own listings. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. All of these people are in my ancestry and I have quite a bit of information about them. I think the era of the 1851 census was a time of great growth and prosperity and I was hoping to get a picture of what they were all doing, what children they had. I am also trying to find out something about my greatgreatgrandparents, Robert and Rachel Pearson. I find William on the marriage of son Richard but I think he is referring to his stepfather, William Hall. Robert had died by the time of the 1861 census and I'm trying to find out when. Hello to All As some of you know I have been photographing cemeteries this summer and Wayne Cook graciously supplying the webspace for them. Often there are "UNKNOWN" markers that have become illegible. The flip side is that some folks have a knack for deciphering such stones. If you have a moment take a look at the "UNKNOWN"s. If you think you know or can decipher them please email Wayne Cook directly at: wcook@rogers.com or myself familytracer@hotmail.com Any assistance is greatly appreciated.... But please, please DO NOT post to the list.
