    3. Sharlene and Denise, Firstly, there are no nuns at St. Ann's. The office is run by an over-worked lay person. Secondly, that is all you will receive - a typed document. The old registers can no longer be photocopied. Please note: the Archdiocese of Toronto has very strict rules about access to information from their registers after 1910. They have forbidden the local churches to do this type of work unless it is required for legal purposes and the party is dead. I've posted information on this previously. See the mailing list archives. You can see the registers on LDS microfilms #1305885-6-7 and make a copy of the entry OR You can send your request to the Penetang Museum which has copies of all the original registers. We will send you a copy of the original entry; not a typed document or transcript. Contact us at genealogy@pencenmuseum.com for costs. Pam

I have very little personal information about the family. I was very interested in seeing the photo of the memorial stone to James EMMS and Frances Mary GREENWAY located in the Little Brick cemetery. They are actually buried in Craighurst. Mary Mary ... Maude Emms was petite, with fiery red hair. Her husband, Joseph was tall and dark haired. They were the type of neighbours that everybody wishes for !!!!!!! There were no living children. I understand that they had a son, but it was a very difficult birth, and the child was sacrificed to save the life of the Mother. In today's world, there would have been a C-Section. Joe pre-deceased Maude, by several years, dying of heart disease. My Mother was not superstitious, just CAREFUL !!!!!!! She firmly believed in the Old Axiom that the first person over your threshold, in the New Year should be male, tall, and dark haired. If such happened, it would be a VERY GOOD YEAR for the Household. The very worst thing that could happen would be, if a short, red-headed woman was the first person over your threshold, in the New Year. It was always Great Fun, watching Mother manoeuvre Joe to be the first over her threshold, on New Year's Day, when the Emms came to call, as they regularly did. Poor Old Maude was nearly bowled over, more than once. Been waiting, a long time, to retell this tale !!!!!!!! Our Family has it memorized, and take great glee in re-telling it !!!!!!!!! I am sure that Mother, Joe and Maude are retelling old tales, right now. Paul Robins

Did you happen to know any of the Leigh clan? John F. Wright Barrie, Ontario John ... My Mother's Family Farm was on the corner of the 5th Concession and the Ridge Road .. West Side. She aligned with the Oro Church .. which was only a mile away. Had notions about the Guthrie United, but after a couple of visits, got the notion that we didn't fill their criteria :-) We could have gone to Guthrie, Oro Station , or Shanty Bay Schools, but chose Shanty Bay because we were able to ride the High School Bus, back & forth, ( at great personal cost to Mother .. :-) ) There, I was the lone Methodist in a sea of Anglicans !!!!!!!!! But, I stood out. I was the only kid who wore a tie to school .. see Wayne Cook's Site for S.S. # 1 SHANTY BAY, May of 1945. We were 2nd Owners from the Crown, on our Farm. Had been settled by Joseph Packard, purchasing it in September 1940. The house was built in 1916, but was state of the art, for its' time. No electriss, but it had indoor plumbing, plus hot and cold running water. We added hydro in time for Christmas of 1940 ..neighbours loved Christmas Tree Lights !!!!!!!! Yes, the LEIGHs were prevalent in Oro, and particularly HAWKESTONE. Norman and Orma Leigh were neighbours. Orma was our mail lady for several years. They had three boys, I recall, Barry being the middle child. Seem to recall that his older brother, who was closer to my age, died in recent times, while awaiting a heart transplant. His name eludes me at this time. If you need a " fill-in " about Oro or Shanty Bay, any time, try picking my brains .. Ain't much else in there, some will tell you :-) Paul Robins, Late of Medonte, Now of Wasaga Beach.

    3. Hi Heather This really helps me. I would be very keen to collate any BMD registration information that would allow me, at some time in the future, to order certificates. I have these in the UK for as many of Mary Ann's brothers, sisters, cousins and parents as I can find. Would you have access to this kind of information? I'm completely unfamiliar with Canadian records. Over in the UK it's all online, and at least 50% of everything is indexed. My own marriage (second) in 1989 is online. Thanks for the prompt response.
