Wellington Fisher is of interest to me. I did research for a descendant of his. He is also tied to the Gaudaur/Gill family. Heather -----Original Message----- From: can-ont-simcoe-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:can-ont-simcoe-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Pam Tessier Sent: October 11, 2007 7:48 AM To: can-ont-simcoe@rootsweb.com Subject: [CAN-ONT-SIMCOE] Constable's Report Hello All, Recently, Deb Crawford mentioned on this list that she was indexing a rare treasure of a book found in the archives of the museum - the Constable's Report, June 1916 to October 1928. The index is about to be printed, bound, catalogued and placed on our shelves, thus ending Deb's fun. The oohs and ahhs, giggles and gasps of shock heard while she was reading and indexing this book were entertaining.... to say the least. The book is now back in its niche in the basement where it will remain. While all of the book's entries are a matter of public record, we have no desire to shake family trees by transcribing the entire book. The entries range from arrest for theft, vandalism, bootlegging, cockfighting (descendants of Midland's upstanding and prominent founders take note) to the very sad and tragic. Some entries contain genealogical information you will not find elsewhere. Remember, Deb did tell you to expand your research horizons and look for the little known records. Since this covers a period when there are few publicly accessible records, it could be the breakthrough you need. So who is in it? Darn near everybody! There are few families in the Penetang/Midland and surrounding areas that are not mentioned. The total count of names exceeded 2,500. If you email Deb or I at genealogy@pencenmuseum.com we will tell you if your family is mentioned. If you want the entire entry, our usual fees apply for locating and transcribing the entry. We will let you know what they are when you email. You may want to pay us a visit instead - on Saturdays only, all winter, we are offering two free hours of research for first-time visitors. You can cover a lot of material in that amount of time! In the introduction to the index, Deb would like to include short bios of some of the official people she has met on these pages. Some we can identify, others we cannot, so we need your help. Take a look through the following list and if you see a name that is familiar, tell us what you know. Where we already have information on the person, we have marked it as completed. Please do not post full entries from websites - no census, Ancestry.ca BMDs etc. Short is the operative word! Pam .. can't add too much . just from Memory !!!!!!!! HOWARD GOVER , Coldwater, was an Insurance Agent. The Gover home still stands, immediately across the Street, beside the bridge, from the Coldwater Mill. On the same side, and across the river from the Dennison House ( Hotel). Assume that this is the party that you want. You will have to prove it. Always enjoy your reflections on History . Keep up the Good Works. A woman named Betsy GUNN died 17 March 1912 in Bradford in her 86th year. She was born in West Gwillimbury, approximately 1827. Her father was Donald McDONALD, born Scotland. Her mother was Janet SUTHERLAND, born Scotland. Betsy's husband's name does not appear in the death registration (Ancestry.ca), but her approximate birth year suggests she married Angus GUNN. I find Angus and Betsy GUNN in West Gwillimbury (ages 36 and 34) in 1861, which places her birth around 1827. His birth year (1825) fits, too. In 1911, the Bradford census shows Angus GUNN born Oct. 1825 and his wife "Elizabeth" GUNN born August, 1827. I would like to be sure that the 1912 death registration is a definite match with the wife of Angus GUNN born 1825 (grain dealer in 1881). Can anyone help? Many thanks, Frances

The far north of England is a key site for family historians. Many researchers, seeking to trace their ancestry back through the generations, will find their trail leads to the north or through it. And yet, despite the burgeoning interest in genealogy and the importance of the region in so many life stories, no previous book has provided a guide to the documents and records that family historians can use in their search. More information http://globalgenealogy.com/countries/england/general/105013.htm BOOKS - Vital Record Notices Extracted from Early Canadian Methodist Periodicals 1830-1890 By Donald A. McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie spent two decades meticulously transcribing genealogical extractions from a variety of Methodist newspapers and periodicals covering the period of 1830 to 1890. Oftentimes these records are the only documented trace of a birth, marriage, death or family connections of an individual in the early 19th Century. For others, these published announcements can contain more or different information than was recorded on surviving church and civil records. A significant percentage of Canadian Protestants in this time-frame adhered to the Methodist faith, while many others accepted the services of Methodist circuit riders when churches of thier faith had not been established in their communities yet. Hello All, Recently, Deb Crawford mentioned on this list that she was indexing a rare treasure of a book found in the archives of the museum - the Constable's Report, June 1916 to October 1928.
