I am trying to follow the various emails on this subject to see if I could help, but I am confused. In another email you say Tracy was born c1890, but below you say he was in 1881 census. He shows up on the 1901 census as Tracey Walker, a domestic in the John Ewing family, also near Stanton. I can find no birth record for him, though I have confirmed that his birth father was Hezekiah Gilbert, birth mother Mary Anne McLean Beatty, daughter of Nancy Walker (Thomas Walker's sister)and William Hamilton Beatty.

Yes, Alex lists his occupation as "lumberman" but that turns out to be a builder for a lot of the cottages at Wasaga Beach. I'm not aware of any involvement of lumbering up north, or even out of Simcoe County but I'd be happy to find him in any place. The marriage is correct and I already had a copy, but I have found no evidence that the Alexander Smith listed as his father ever existed. Nor do I believe that his mother was ever married to a Smith at all. Esther Dawson arrived in Canada in 1907 aboard the "Dominion" as a "home girl", I can't seem to locate her in the 1911 census, although I know she was in Ontario during that time. Her sister Elizabeth was also a "home girl" and I have located her out west, she married Edward John Clement. 1911 Canada Census Record Name: Elizabeth Clement Gender: Female Marital Status: Married Age: 23 Birth Date: September 1888 Birthplace: England Family Number: 10 Relation to Head of House: Wife Tribal: English Province: Alberta District: MacLeod District Number: 3 Sub-District Number: 2 Census Year: 1911 Page: 2 Household Members: Name Birth Year Issesble Mc Kat 1871 Mary Mc Nat 1889 Francis Mc Kat 1911 Edward Clement 1886 Elizabeth Clement 1888 The sisters at that point in time had not managed to locate each other. Eventually they did and both relocated to Collingwood, Ontario. Where Esther met and married Alex Smith. Thanks for your help. Yes. I have all that, but thank you for your interest in my query. My main interest is what happened to Tracy after he joined the Thomas Walker family in 1880/1. Apparently, he was adopted, though not formally, by his great Uncle Thomas Walker, but because I haven't been able to access any census records between 1881 and 1901, I don't know where he was, where he might have gone to school, and so on. After 1901 he went to Manitoba, where he married Blanche Martin in 1905 and they had two children, Marjory (my mother) and Lawrence. After that they went to Wetaskiwin AB and had three more children, Blanche, Mel and Thelma. He, his wife and son Lawrence died within a few days of each other in December, 1918 of Spanish flu. I am particularly interested in the blank period between 1881 and 1901, because no details of his illegitemate birth and subsequent early life with the Thomas Walker family have come down to us, his decendents. There may be surviving Gilbert decendents who have some knowledge of it, but if so, I have yet to find them. ----- Original Message ----- From: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: <CAN-ONT-SIMCOE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 09, 2007 6:50 PM Subject: Re: [CAN-ONT-SIMCOE] Census data 1881-1901 > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: satch42179 > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.ontario.simcoe/2574.2/m b.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Hezekiah Walker and wife Mary A M are living in Mulmur on 1901 census [www.automatedgenealogy.com] with children, Garfield, 16, Lois 5 and Cecil 3. > > Hezekiah and Mary Ann Beatty got married in 1885. Thanks, Lynn, I will try to follow that up. I may be able to find a death certificate in Detroit (although the ones that I found for William and Mary just showed the country of birth). If I could find a will, it might provide more info. I appreciate your help. I started out by trying to find their marriage registrations for locations. Although I didn't find many of them, I did find a marriage for their daughter, Elizabeth, born abt. 1858 to Edward Duke in York County in 1878. Their residence was in Scarborough and I found the family there in 1881 on the census. Later, I found the marriage for their son, Richard in 1912 to Irene Middleton in Essex County (Windsor), who was living in Detroit, Michigan at the time. He gave his birthplace as New York so I checked and found that his mother, father and family were there in 1900 (Monroe County). I believe they immigrated in either 1891 or 1892. Don't know if this is interest to you but thought I would send it along in case you were still searching for the extended family.> Regards,> Lynne.> > > > > I am looking for birth or marriage information for my ancestors John and Elizabeth (Weir) Campbell, who settled on Conc 7 Lot 17 Oro in 1831 ( John was a retired soldier - 11th Royal Veterans' Bn). I made an error in my original e-mail. John and Elizabeth (Weir) Campbell's son was William Campbell whose wife was Mary (Sproule) Campbell. _________________________________________________________________ Read what Santa`s been up to! I was waiting to get the CD from Heide before I could confirm it. I got the CD from Heide but it was blank for some reason so hopefully Heide will read this and check into it for us. I should have Leigh's Corners on the site by next week.
