    1. [CAN-ONT-SIMCOE] John Wright Barrie Paper Info
    2. Sandy
    3. Good Afternoon John I would like to thank you for this info on Barrie Newspaper Index. I just did a search of Gunstone and discovered a death notice for him. Funny thing is there is no notice for his wife as she died two months before him. Job Gunstone died 24 Aug. 1954...I found out last year they are both buried in Barrie Union Cemetery. Now have to find time to get to library and see this notice. Thanks bunches as this is wonderful. xoxo Sandy > Date: Fri, 21 Aug 2009 17:53:12 -0400 > From: "John Wright" <[email protected]> > Subject: [CAN-ONT-SIMCOE] Barrie Newspaper Index > To: <[email protected]> > Message-ID: <[email protected]> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" > > > The Barrie Public Library has placed the Barrie Newspaper Index online: > > http://news.ourontario.ca/barrie/ > > The index covers the period from 1847 to 1968 and includes almost 120,000 > entries. > > Many thanks to the dedicated library staff who created this valuable > resource for the genealogical community. > > John F. Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.ontario.simcoe/2672.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am posting the information I have found about the children of Robert Lowry and Elizabeth McGovern. I believe Robert initially settled in Tecumseth, and the last I found of him was in Nottawasaga in 1861, living with his son Charles. I would be delighted if anyone knows where he is buried. These are their children, all born in Ireland and died in Ontario: Charles, born about 1819, married Margaret Sanderson and Margaret McCauley Anne, born about 1811, married David Dickson Ellen, born about 1814, married John Heaney Mary, born about 1825, married Elias B. Grey George, born 1816. I am trying to confirm this is the same George who married Ann Widdis - he always gave his birthdate as 1820. I would be happy to hear from any descendents of these Lowry's. Author: barbdale_1 Surnames: Lowry, Brown, Austin Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.ontario.simcoe/2687/mb.ashx Message Board Post: As part of my ongoing research to sort out the various Lowry families in Simcoe County, I am posting this information about this family from County Armagh: John Lowry married Mary Brown in Ireland.(Note: John Lowry died in 1847, and then Mary married David Austin May 6, 1847) Their children were:(According to Tecumseth Anglican Parish Register) James Lowry, born May 5, 1837 David, born February 21, 1839 John, born March 12, 1841 Joseph, born February 28, 1843 There may have been others, but these are the ones I have. The information was transcribed from the parish register by someone else, so I can't totally vouch for the accuracy of dates. I believe there was also a son named Robert, perhaps their first son. Some researchers claim that William Lowry, husband of Eliza Armson, was also a son of John and Mary, but I have not yet found information to confirm who his parents were. He was born in Lockport New York, to Irish parents. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [CAN-ONT-SIMCOE] Settlers' Day - September 19th
    2. Pam Tessier
    3. Hello Everyone, On September 19th from 10AM to 3PM, the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum & Archives will be holding its annual Settler' Day event. this year we are honouring Alfred Andrew Thompson, an early fur trader, entrepreneur, politician and the founder of an extraordinary family. We have numerous activities and entertainment planned. See our website: www.pencenmuseum.com for more information. As usual at this event, admission is free. Just bring a few bucks to buy a great lunch or maybe one of our books. This year the planning committee has decided to repeat last year's successful Family Hall with displays of family memorabilia, genealogy, research material and especially photographs. Here is an opportunity for family historians to show off what they have been collecting over the years. You need not be a certified or professional genealogist to participate. We want to see what you, the ordinary researcher, has been up to and what you have collected on your families. Collections of memorabilia, photographs, postcards etc. are especially welcome. Here is the setup: we have a large hall and annex where we will set up 6' or 8' tables with two chairs each. Electrical connections for laptops are available. The wall behind your table will be bare and just waiting for your posters and charts. We ask that you set up by 10am and remove your material by 4:00. You may stay at your table to answer questions and meet 'cousins' or you can participate in the events inside and outside. There will be a BBQ lunch available or you can bring your own to eat at a picnic table on the grounds, while listening to the entertainment. We have photocopiers on the premises in case you find someone with that picture of gr-grandpa and his horse....... or his wife. The cost to use a table? Your time only. Sound like fun? If you have ever been to Festival du Loup in Lafontaine, you will know what a good time everyone has seeing all the family histories and photos, swapping stories and catching up on family news. Other than family reunions, these events are the only opportunities for family historians to exhibit and share their information. We do ask that your family have some connection to the early settlers in the Penetanguishene area and this includes Midland, Lafontaine, Tiny and Tay Townships and Christian Island. Any nationality, ethnic or racial group is welcome! This is an opportunity to celebrate the lives of the settlers who came from around the globe, worked and played in our area. For more information, please contact me off-list. Pam Tessier

    2. Jane Coopman
    3. Would anyone have any information on Rose McGovern who was living in Mono Mills in 1906? She was the neice of Elizabeth Feron and I think her parents were Bernard and Alice Feron of Caledon, Cardwell, Ontario. Rose appears on the 1881 census as Rose Feron, age 18 and born 1863. She is absent from the 1891 census. In 1906 she was left a little something by her aunt Elizabeth and she is Rose McGovern. She may have been married between 1881 and 1891. Thank you Jane
