Hi AllJust wondering if anyone on this list follows the QUEBEC-RESEARCH list on Rootsweb as well. It has a great group of people just like this list does. Anyone following Quebec ancestry will find this list worthwhile. One of the members owns a copy of the BLUE DROUIN not sure about the RED. All you have to do is post your request, and he will do your lookups. All he requires is a thank you. You are limited to 1 request per email.Besides that, this is a well established list with a lot of other people willing to help also - they fill in the gaps for PRDH and Family Search. Hope this helpsCarol D _________________________________________________________________ Stay on top of things, check email from other accounts! http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9671355
Would anyone happen to know what buildings use to occupy the waterfront of Kempenfelt Bay. Was out walking last nite and found a picture plaque for the gas company but nothing for the other two/three. One being Cotty's Cleaners... I think one was the dairy and maybe the other a bread co.???? I tried to google but found nothing. On the waterfront are steel girders that might have been part of a dock. I don't understand why Barrie hasn't put plaques up on the walking trail as it is so much of Barrie's history. Thanks xoxo Sandy

The Rootsweb Quebec-Research mailing list is having quite a discussion about this very subject today. Check http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index?list=quebec-research FYI - the surname Ladouceur has more than one dit name. The P.R.D.H. lists over 70. http://www.genealogy.umontreal.ca/en/ Here in the Penetanguishene RC church records the two parties in your query are referred to as "Ladouceur" and "Lafleur" - no dit names. "Dit" is a form of the French verb "to call," meaning "called," & verbs have no gender...it's not an adjective or a pronoun. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Conlin" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, August 24, 2009 6:32 PM Subject: Re: [CAN-ONT-SIMCOE] Charles Ladouceur Just a small item for your recording - when entering a "dit" name for a female it would be correct to use "dite" as "dit" is for males. To quote a post of by a teacher of French on August 24/09 from Rootsweb's Quebec-Research list I offer the following: "The word "dit" is an adjective that modifies the person's surname. If the person is male, it should be written in the masculine "dit", such as my 6g-grandfather, Joseph-Jacques Payant dit Saintonge; if the person is female, it should be written in the feminine "dite", such as Joseph-Jacques wife, my 6g-grandmother, Jeanne-Anne-Genevieve Legris dite Lepine. But that rule only applies if proper grammar and syntax are still relevant. Reading the newspapers Cyperpresse presents on-line from throughout the province, it don't seem like gramer and speling make a bit of difresnse enny mor. " Cheers! The OCFA also lists "Austin RICHARDSON" in the same cemetery (reference SM-TE-5979). I can't find him in Ancestry's list of Ontario Death Registrations, so the St. John's Anglican Cemetery inscription is my best hope of finding where and when he died (possibly 1924 in Victoria, BC). I'm hoping for help from someone who knows the cemetery or has access to an index and transcripts. With thanks and best wishes, Frances
Dear All-on-List: I've missed this exchange, not having consulted the Simcoe list in recent weeks. Can you tell me if the library has an index to obituaries, by any chance? I'm looking for one for a Richard Applebe (hopelessly varied spellings) of Innisfil who died 17 March, 1884. Lynne Kemp and Diana Gendron, typically patient and helpful Simcoe sleuths, assisted me enormously in tracing the family -but I'm still hoping for an obituary. He died of infection in his legs following a sawmill accident, according to family legend. Lynne kindly looked in the Barrie newspaper for me, with no luck; but I'm stil lhoping that some area newspaper wold have covered either the accident or his obit. Thanks for any comments. Just a small item for your recording - when entering a "dit" name for a female it would be correct to use "dite" as "dit" is for males.
