    3. I need some help as I wind down the soldiers of World War 1 project. So far, of the 144 fellows I have researched, only one man has eluded me and an expert on that particular family. However, I have a few more who are proving difficult to locate information for. Maybe I am just getting tired and missing the obvious. Note that I have checked all our local church records, OVS and census returns. 1) JUVIN, George - born Penetang 14 Feb. 1884. Father Edward's residence in 1917 is Webbwood and George's is John Island. In 1917 George was unmarried and a labourer. He signed his draft document with an X in Sudbury. 2) THERRIEN, Peter - born Penetang Feb. 1897 to father Jack Therrien. Unmarried labourer, could not write. Enlisted March 1916. Residence Penetang but signed his papers in Byng Inlet. I have a few leads on this fellow but no concrete proof of who he is. 3) KING, Frank - born May 1896 in Penetang. Father Alex. Both living in Key Junction (Parry Sound district) in 1918. He is a 'defaulter', unmarried, a farmer and signed his draft document in Sudbury on March 1918. 4) McCONNELL, John - born November 1875 in Penetang. Father's name is James. He is an unmarried teamster who served 3 seasons with the Ontario Volunteers prior to signing his papers on 24 March 1915 in Calgary. Thanks for any help! Pam

    3. For anyone interested, GOOGLE .. Lount's Castle .. Will bring up the whole, current story. The first one brings up a picture of the (original) castle, and a price . But ......NOWHERE that you may buy it !!!! Had an occasion, over 50 years ago, to visit Folks living in part of the house. Even then it had been broken up into Apartments. The third floor was a glorious Ballroom, as I remember, and hadn't been altered, at that time. Other pictures, via Google, show it as it is today . A rather pale image !!! One has to hope that someone, with a pail of money, could step in and restore it to its original Glory !!! But, then maybe, it is destined for the dump, like the Old Fire House, on Collier at Mulcaster !!!!!!!!!! Paul Robins -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] ... Our only hope is that if it gets sold that the new owners have some sense of pride and dignity of such a treasured building. Barrie has lost so much in recent years it would be such a shame to lose this too. Does anyone know if Lount's Castle, which was I believe built in the 1890's, has historical designation or is this another one that will end up like the Steele's Gift Shop?!? 3. I was rather surprised to find out that Barrie has approximately 10 - 15 designations. Orillia, a considerably smaller city and we are pushing 30 designations under the Ontario Heritage Act. I recently heard that Barrie was looking for three more members for their Heritage Committee. Check at City Hall. Here is your chance to make a historical difference Chris. 3. Often the cemetery records include information about the children of the deceased, especially if it is a family plot -- at least that's been true about many of my relatives. 3. Thank you again, Doreen. Indeed, thank you everyone for all your help. I reckon any rellies I might have in Orillia (if they stayed in the city) would be about my age, or a bit older, and I'm sixty five. Aubrey Burgin was born in 1913 and died in 1972, so I'd guess he would've married in the 1930s, way out of Canadian records access periods, sadly. Never mind though, I'm delighted to have found my grandfather's brother at all. When he was missing from the English 1911 census published two years early this year because of pressure on our government by family history fanatics, :) I wondered what on earth had happened to him and his family, and now I know. I doubt if the family was posh enough to have put their children's births in the local newspapers... but it is certainly worth a try. All the best, Marion nee Burgin in England On 11 Sep 2009, at 20:41, Conlin wrote: > There are two things you can do about finding those children: 1) > look up birth announcements in their local newspaper; and 2) go to > your local LDS Family History Centre as they have the films, > although nothing is available for births after 1911/12 at this > time.
