According to notes found in the Perkins Bull Papers at the Chinguacousy Library last summer my g+grandfather's (John McKechnie of Cheltenham) obituary appeared in the January 13, 1876 edition of the Peel Banner. The T.F. Wood & Co Canadian Newspaper Directory stated the Peel Banner was established in Brampton in 1867, published every thursday and was edited by Alexander Dick. The Peel Banner is not included in the Canadiana Collections held by the National Archives in Ottawa. I have been told that the Peel Archives does not have a copy. Did another Brampton newspaper take over the Peel Banner and may those issues be included in their archives? Does anyone know if the Peel Banner was filmed and where I may be able to view same? The Brampton Conservator started in October 13, 1876, might that have taken over for the Peel Banner?
