    1. OFF-TOPIC - DEVIN - "The Boy With The Flag"

    3. To all:- This is long overdue, but I have fond remembrances of a young cadet of the 540 Golden Hawk Squadron bringing smiles to faces of many aged veterans at Sunnybrook. Devin Castilloux, age 14, had one special goal but did not quite make it! Devin's goal was to have the Canadian flag, inscribed with many signatures of veterans, flown from the Peace Tower on Remembrance Day. This was not governmentally possible, but he received the flag flown on Remembrance Day via Scott Brison, MP. Devin visits Legions, other gatherings where veterans may gather, and wirh his own flag design with a poppy in the centre, gathers as many signatures as possible. All one has to do is invite him to a special gathering, along with his father Mike - devin@castilloux.com Some of the extra special veterans Devin has known as friends was the late 106-year-old Clare Laking, a WWI veteran - plus my husband and many, many others. It was a treat to see how the vets smiled when they saw Devin -- an "adopted grandson" for many. Devin gives certificates to all veterans who sign his big white flag, and as Howard Mozel, Oakville Beaver wrote, "Speaking to veterans became a logical extensionof Devin's fascination, especially given how fast they are disappearing, and his parents are impressed by how effortlessly he interacts with them". The interest started with history, learning how his gr.grandfather served in World War I and his interest in military history and tradition has vastly grown. I expect I will see Devin at Sunnybrook on Remembrance Day, but this has been prompted by the loss of our 25th Canadian. Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca Brampton, ON
