Hi Jim I believe the earliest photo's in my collection are a copy of a studio photograph of my grandfather standing beside my great-great-grandfather. There is no date, or photographers name on it, but the original was "mounted" inside a paper frame. My grandfather was born in 1858 and appears to be about 8 years old in the photo. His grandfather died in 1869, so I have dated this photo to about 1866 and yes, it would have been taken somewhere in the area around Claremont, Stouffville, or Toronto, Ontario. The original is in my great-grandparents photograph album. I also have a studio photograph of my grandmother age 2 with her brother age 10. Grandmother was born in 1866, in the Willowdale area of Toronto. Perhaps someone else will know who had photography studios in these areas at that time.
