Subject: Fw: Possible Photo of my Great Grand Parents, John & Mary Ann White I have recently received an email of a possible photo of my great grand parents, John(Sr.) & Mary Ann White, of Albion. John White Sr., was born in 1804. It is my estimate that the male in the photo is approx. 45-55 years old. If it is John White Sr., it would have to have been taken in the 1849-1859 time frame. There is NO reference to the photographer, his studio, or the time frame of the photo (this part was trimmed off, to put it in a frame). It appears to have been taken in a studio. It is unlikely it would have been taken by a member of the White family. Relative to this photo, I have several questions: 1) Were photos being taken of family portraits in the 1850's time frame ( I noticed a photo of Lincoln, in 1863, in today's local newspaper) ? 2) Were there any photographer's studios in the Albion/Mono area cir 1850-1860 ? 3) George White, John's oldest son, was married at St. James, in Toronto, on March 12, 1851. This is probably one of the very few times that John White Sr. may have been in Toronto/York, as it was probably a good 2 days trip, by horse/ carriage. Thus it is possible it could have been taken in Toronto/York, in 1851. John White Sr. would have been 47 in 1851, and fits in with the approx age of the male in the photo. Were pictures taken in Toronto/York , in 1851 ? 4) My grand father, John White Jr, was married in 1868. I have been unable to confirm the exact location, although the date was confirmed in a family bible. John White Sr., would have been 64, in 1868. Although the male in the picture does not appear to be 64, it may be possible, and, the date of 1868, may be more likely than 1851, for a photo like this to have been taken ? If this is the case, perhaps my grand parents were also married in Toronto/York, rather than Albion/Mono ? 5) What is the oldest date anyone has of a family picture/portrait ? In the Albion area ? In the Toronto/York area ? Is it likely a photo would have been taken between 1851-1868, in either Albion, or Toronto ? The oldest I have, is 1890, taken in a photo studio on Queen St., in Toronto, of my maternal grand father. I would appreciate your comments and suggestions on the above, as this is probably the only possible photo of my great grand parents, John and Mary Ann White. Regards Jim White Naples, Florida
