To all deciphering the 1911 census records:- We were very pleased when the 1911 to 2001 records were released last June 28, 2005 -- but then it was when our genealogical work began, transcribing these so ancestors could be found now and in future years. I will admit the writing is not always the best, very difficult to read -- often a check with the 1901 records is necessary. Here are some points I have found: 1. Many transcribers are claiming pages when there might be only 17 lines to the page. [We do not know if the person is coming back] There are 50 lines per page, not 17. If 17 lines are there, on the 18th delete the FAMILY NAME and HOUSE NUMBER -- then click on SUBMIT until you reach 51. This is when you Claim the Page. It will show 50 lines. Hopefully any who committeed this little deed, will go back and finish off the blank lines as above -- there are MANY. 2. Only the one who has Claimed Page is able to access data. 3. If unsure of your work, leave the page at 50 lines but DO NOT Claim Page -- I have checked many and fixed errors. 4. In my own PEEL COUNTY, many have claimed the page after transcribing ONE name, others pick out sections for their usage. It is alright to transcribe one or more lines, but do NOT claim the page -- others will finish it for you. Let's keep above bits in mind, we may have to check 1901 census, but remember, there are proofreaders after we are through. A group of us have been working together in Shelburne County, Nova Scotia and it is fantastic what an extra pair of eyes can see!! Please finish all pages to 50 lines even though they are blank.
