    3. REYNOLDS, Burton C.: Saturday February 10, 2007, Halifax Herald: REYNOLDS, Burton C. - Died peacefully at Peel Memorial Hospital, Brampton, Ont., Saturday, February 3, 2007. Born in Mulgrave, N.S., in October, 1916, to Rev. Alfred and Phoebe (Cooke) Reynolds. Came of age during the Depression, "rode the rods" across Canada, joined the Merchant Marine, then the Canadian Navy at the outbreak of war in 1939. Close to the war's end, when stationed in Sydney, N.S., he met a navy nursing sister from Oshawa, Ont., named Helen Hare. He and Helen were married for 60 years, until her death this past July 31. After his marriage to Helen, Bert left the sea to work in sales for many years, chiefly at Fiberglass Canada Ltd. in Toronto and Halifax. In 1966, he entered the real estate business first in Ontario and later in Florida. In retirement, Bert and Helen lived in Lindsay and finally Brampton, Ont. Bert is survived by his three daughters, Joyce Campbell (Colin) of Toronto; Joan Clare of Peterborough; and Maggie Reynolds (John Simmonds) of Courtenay, B.C. "Grandpa Bert" also leaves his six grandchildren: Colin, Susannah (Loic Oliver), Alex (Jackie Rohel), and Malcolm Campbell; Kerry (Stuart Lawler) and Christy Clare. He was predeceased by his older brother, Alfred J. Reynolds of Sydney, N.S., but is lovingly remembered by his younger brother, Rev. Alan Reynolds (Brenda) of Richmond, B.C. Bert was a "character", a source of stories for years to come, but he was also a restless soul, always on the move, never at rest. He has finally found his home and is at peace. The family will gather in the spring for the burial of Bert's cremated remains. Donations in his memory may be made to Salvation Army, with his everlasting thanks for all they did to help him (and others) get by during the Depression. Arrangements in care of Ward Funeral Home, Brampton, Ont.
