    3. Hi This couple is found in the censuses in Springfield 1851, 1861, 1881 and in St Augustine's records as living at Springfield in the 1850's. Looking for a marriage record (abt 1848) or something that would give names of Mary's parents...or might link her to Patrick Gill, who I believe might be her brother. Any info on this couple much appreciated. Thanks Eve -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. It has removed 22 spam emails to date. 3. The following message was sent out this evening and it would be great if Simcoe and Peel Counties were peeked at by ones who know the people -- corrections made so all will be 100% Muriel - list admin ---------------------- To all:- I am copying in the NOVA-SCOTIA list -- there were many transcribers who assisted in making this province the first to be 100% - but Lunenburg County was the first county. It would be nice to have all provinces transcribed -- I know proofreaders have been working in Nova Scotia (I had a number of pages to correct, mainly in the Queens and Shelburne areas). Percentages to date are:- CANADA...............................96.99% ALBERTA..............................80.15% [Calgary is 100%] BRITISH COLUMBIA............79.40% [Nanaimo is 100%] SASKATCHEWAN.................88.24% [Four districts 100%] REQUEST:- If a transcriber cannot figure out the writing - it can be bad, please do NOT Claim the Page -- this prevents others from trying to finish it. Also, too many pages have less than 50 lines -- some were claimed in 2006 -- and I have requested many unlocked. Let's get this job done -- census is a major part of genealogy. http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/ Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee Brampton, ON

    2. Gay King
    3. Hi, I have again gone through the 1851 census images and there were five wards for Chinguacousy, up to the Caledon Township line. It would appear that Ward 4 included the Concessions 2,3,4,5, & 6 East of Centre Road (Hurontario) from lot 18 (Mayfield Road) to 34 (Caledon Town Line). Brampton included Wards 1 and 2 plus 'two concessions for Lots 1 to 34'. Ward 5 appears to have been bounded by the Town of Caledon line, 1st Concession line West of Centre Road; and on the south, the (?) River running along lots 17 and 18 in the Twp of Chinguacousy, and the Twp of Esquesing on the west. The rest is left to Ward 3 - wherever that is! As Jane suggested I have emailed Brian Gilchrist and will see if he can shed additional light on this. I'll post any pertinent reply back to the list so someone else doesn't go through all these images! Thanks for your replies, Jane and Malcolm! Gay

    3. Hi Gay, First I assume you realize that the "Ward #4" identifies the location in terms of the municipal records and census poles and would help to locate the entry in the appropriate municipal and census records. The "Ontario Locator" web site <http://www.geneofun.on.ca/db.php> shows the following: "Geographic Location* : Chinguacousy Township, Peel County Municipal Location* : Other Location: Part of the city of Brampton and the town of Caledon " so I guess it must be Ward #4 of "the city of Brampton and the town of Caledon." A lot would depend on when Chinguacousy got incorporated into Brampton. Malcolm Archive CD Books Canada Inc. President: Malcolm Moody PO Box 11 Manotick Ontario, K4M 1A2 Canada. 3. for those looking at land records here are two suggestions. Ontario Genealogy Society has the Index for the Upper Canada land books (1787 to 1841). This will give the settelers name and the film to order for additional data. Just purchased it a few weeks ago, myself. The other is http://digital.library.mcgill.ca/countyatlas/searchpeople.php This is an on line atlas you can search by surname and will show a small map showing the location of the property. Now if I can get this out without vista killing it!

    3. While I have no Haines' in my research I do have some Camerons. As the Camerons are an offshoot of my family/married into I haven't spent much time researching them. I have a Catherine Christina Cameron (b. Jul 1882) marrying a Gowland. I also have the family of Archibald and Mary (McDonald, 1856-1916) Cameron and their children John, Elizabeth, Marion and Archibald. All of either Peel or Wellington Cty. I also have a Adeline Emily Cameron marrying into the Roberts family in the 1940s. Let me know if this research is of any help. 3. Hello Diana; Thank you for your response. I do not recognize any of those names as being 'my' Camerons. Given names were Eliza, Mary, James, Maeia, Donald, Nancy Ann, William, Elizabeth, Sarah, Charles and on to other generations and marriages of Shain, Smith, Dickson, Stafford, Long and Bell etc. The time span with these names is 1808 . Some members of the family were in Peel until at least 1912. Your Archibald is a name in my Camerons but not my direct line. I think Christina many be, but the dates are too late for anything I know. I expect some of them are related. Thank you again for taking the time to be in touch. 3. To all -- The annual Walk for Multiple Sclerosis has been scheduled for Sunday, April 15 - this coming Sunday. Information is available at http://mssociety.ca Many have already received pledges to assist in the fight against MS. The funds do not stay with the walker, but go to the national MS Society - or in some places, stay for usage in the hometown. My youngest brother was 22 when diagnosed, lived another 45 years, with at least 20 of these as a chartered accountant. At present, another brother's grandson is the latest in our family. In the area of Nova Scotia where I was born, there are at least 25 with MS -- many blame the mercury in the Atlantic Ocean, but no definite explanation to date. Sincerely hope many will be walking! 3. Thanks Jane: I have had several emails and it does not look like the right family. I was referred to a Cheltenham B&B and have had a reply. Another checked Peel GenSociety and told me there was one copy of a Cameron file there. I told her it was likely mine ! And she said there was a Haines one there. I have no idea what that is. I have been in touch earlier with Ruth Robb to do some other task for me, but she said she had not been feeling well and her computer was on the fritz again. I have not heard another word, so I hope she is o.k. I think I won't labour the point. It was just a thought on my part to try to find something in a different fashion. Nothing venture, nothing gained. In this case nothing gained. Thanks for your comments. 3. Hi Delphine, I've checked our resources but can't see that anyone is researching the HAINES surname. Why don't you put together a query and send it to me via email and we'll put it in our next newsletter, which is August, sorry you just missed the May issue. This may sound a little folksy but I will try anything to grab some attention from Peel County . I have only ever had a reply from Jane Watt and Muriel Davidson and one man who was an excellent helper. other than one other from B.C . I guess i am picking up on Muriel's comment about a 'layed back' gang in Peel County compared to other places. I agree with her. I seem to get response from other places and 'list moms' who do a wonderful job of facilitating the searches and bringing vitality to the 'hunt'. Am I wrong?! > > To re-coup- I am for HAINES and related names and Cameron and related names. Thank you! > Delphine Large > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to CAN-ONT-PEEL-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
