Thomas STRACHAN was b. 1 Dec 1878 in Mornington Township, Perth County, Ontario, Canada to parents Hugh STRACHAN (1852-1933) and Margaret THOMPSON (1857-1926). Thomas had one sibling, a brother George STRACHAN (1880-1958). Thomas married Martha "Mattie" GOSTLIN (1880-1951) in Toronto, Canada on 1 Jun 1904. Thomas died 8 Feb 1951 in Toronto, Canada and is buried in the Prospect Cemetery in Toronto. I am hoping to be able to return the photograph album to family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. DNA Lecture by a Leading Authority on June 2nd
    2. Nancy Trimble via
    3. Topic: Supercharging Your Genealogy with DNA Presenter: Dr. Maurice Gleeson from London England Date & Time: June 2nd, 2015 at 7:30 pm Place: Auditorium, Oshawa Public Library, 65 Bagot Street, Oshawa, L1H 1N2 (just south of City Hall) Host: Durham Region Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society The meeting is open to the public and everyone is welcome. DNA testing is really easy to do, costs about $125 Canadian dollars, and is helping family history researchers break through Brick Walls that they never thought would come down. The technology behind DNA testing has been given a real boost by the Adoption Community who have developed tools and methodologies to facilitate the use of DNA to reconnect adoptees with their birth families. These same technologies have proven to be of real benefit to ordinary everyday genealogists too. Maurice will explain how DNA testing (and autosomal DNA in particular) can help you connect with genetic cousins and solve your own family mysteries. He will also explain how to focus the attack on your Brick Walls by testing several targeted family members. He will illustrate his talk with real life examples, including an adoption success story from his own family. *Dr Maurice Gleeson* is a psychiatrist, pharmaceutical physician, some time actor, and genetic genealogy convert. He runs several DNA projects at FamilyTreeDNA, has several blogs, and has a YouTube channel devoted to videos on genetic genealogy with the aim of making the subject understandable and accessible to the widest audience possible. He was born and grew up in Dublin, is based in London (UK), and lectures on genetic genealogy worldwide. I hope that you are in the area on June 2nd and can come to this special session. Nancy Trimble

    3. This List is not very active, 20 postings show up for January 2011 and really slow for the past several months. If you think you may have missed something you can always check the List's archives at: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/CAN-ONT-ONTARIO/ Cheers! 3. Just to answer Maggi question "where is everybody" I have wondered myself and almost asked it!!! I don't have a question but am always 'available' to help others...if I can. Perhaps a website reference, or a 'seen' surname on a database. Who knows what lurks out there! :-) Carol On Wednesday, October 1, 2014 12:53 PM, Catt via <can-ont-ontario@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > >Just ask your questions and if anybody knows, they will likely answer. >Who are you researching? > >Catt > >On Tue 30/09/14 7:08 PM , Maggi Finnigan via can-ont-ontario@rootsweb.com sent: >> >> >> >> >> ------------------------------- >> >> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to >CAN-ONT-ONTARIO-request@rootsweb.com with the word >> 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >> >> >> >> >> > > > > >------------------------------- >To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to CAN-ONT-ONTARIO-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > >

    3. Hello I am hoping that someone reading this may be able to help me break down one of my brick walls. I am seeking any information that I can re ADA PRUDENCE LESTER, born in West Chinnock, Somerset, England in March Qtr 1888, to parents JOHN EDWARD LESTER and MARY ANN, nee APLIN. With her older sister, BESSIE, she arrived in Montreal, Canada on the 'Australasian' on 02 June 1901. BESSIE LESTER married ALFRED HUGH MALE on 26 Dec 1902 in Leeds Co, Ontario. I have heaps of information about that family. I do not believe that ADA returned to England and I cannot find her in the 1911 UK Census or in Canada in 1911 or 1921. I cannot find a marriage in Canada. I cannot find her in the US either. All I know for sure is that she was deceased when her mother died in Qld, Aus, in 1948. Is there anyone out there who may be able to find a marriage and/or death for Ada? I have a World sub to Ancestry and also a sub to Find My Past. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Val (Bundaberg, Qld, Aus.)
