Hi Ida I checked both the Egremont history and Bethel to Boothville and there isn't anything directly connected - certainly not a family write up :>( I see the following in the online Islay OPRs Children of Alexander McIntyre and Flora McEachern Diana b 12 Nov 1846 bapt 5 Nov 1850 John b 3 Nov 1848 bapt 5 Nov 1850 Gilbert b 1 Feb 1851 bapt 4 Mar 1851 I checked the online Islay deaths but don't see any to children of Alex and Flora. Ina the 1851 Bruce & Grey Census Index: Alex McIntyre, farmer, b SCT 29, marr, b Highlands, NAC m/film C11723 or LDS film 0349208 pg 15 (note census is recorded in reverse order) If this is the same family, then they would also be in the Islay 1851 census. (I lucked out that way with my g-g-grandparents) In the 1871 index: Alexander McIntyre, 49, b Sct, farmer, NAC m/film C-9950 Sub Dist B Div 1 pg 28 Since there is a consistency of age in the censuses indicating a DOB @1822 for Alex, I looked at the OPR births again and see the following: Children of John McIntyre and Marrion McIntyre Alexander b 18 Apr 1823, bapt 23 Apr 1823 Kilchoman Gilbert b 20 Feb 1825, bapt 13 Mar 1825, Kilchoman Betsey b 20 Apr 1827, bapt 8 Jul 1827 Kilchoman Ann b 24 May 1829 bapt 21 Jun 1829, Kilchoman Nicol b 20 Feb 1832 bapt 10 Jun1832, Kilchoman Thomas R. b 26 May 1834 Bowmore, Kilarrow Parish - possible? Duncan b 8 Mar 1835 bapt 19 Jul 1835 Kilchoman Next I checked "A Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to Canada Before Confederation" Vol 2 by Donald Whyte, pg 202 (should have done this first!) 5848 McIntyre, Alexander, called Sandy, from Is Islay, ARL, s/o John and Marion M. To Egremont Twp, Grey Co, Ont, 1851, loc Lot 9 Con 6, farmer, m Flora McEachern, qv. ch. Going back to the Egremont history with its lovely map on the inside cover, Alex's land is labelled with his name and it appears that he had 250 acres. Since it is closely located to Woodland Church, I checked the BGOGS Woodland cemetery records: 233 Ann d 2 Jan 1888, 62, Islay Alex d 18 Mar 1856, 60 234 James Henry infant s/o Alex & Isabella d 25 Dec 1863, 3 dys 236 Sarah w/o Alex Hermiston d 27 Aug 1904, 50 Peter T 1856-1936 237 James s/o Alexander & Flora d 23 Oct 1872, 14 yrs 238 Nichol s/o Nichol & Ellen b 12 Nov 1867 d 31 Dec 1870 Nichol d 20 Apr 1903, 83 yrs, native of SCT 239 John d 28 Aug 1880, age 92, Argyllshire his w Catherine McCaul d 20 Mar 1878, 82 Nathaniel Sivell s/o Joseph & Mary McIntyre d 4 Aug 1877, 4 yrs Lot 9 Con 6 is near the community of Riverside and also SS No 5 school - there is a school group photo circa 1898 pg 181 that includes some McIntyres. Cheerio Sue Visser PS there is N. McIntyre on the map located at L8 con 4 just south of Alex on Con 6. PPS: For those folks with Isle of Islay roots, there is an Islay list at http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/SCT/SCT-ISLAY.html This is a very active list with a hard working group of members who have transcribed many records and sources of information. The original list master, Steve Gilchrist, co-ordinated these transcriptions and a variety of other goodies and placed them on his website at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~steve/islay/data.htm The present list master, Ted Larson, is carrying on the same tradition of hard work and has co-ordinated OPR BMDs and other data at http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~tlarson/bdm/
