The focus of my searching has been John Lachlan McQuarrie, son of Harvey McQuarrie and Elizabeth Robbins. Harvey came to Osprey/Feversham about 1858, Elizabeth is not on the 1861 census but some of the children are. John L. married Marian Dand of Feversham I assume before the first known child in 1878. They are mis-transcribed on the 1881 census as John McDarrie and Mariah. I can't seem to find Harvey on the land listed in the 1865 Grey Cty Gazeteer. I can't find John L., who is listed as a farmer, on any land in Feversham/Osprey except for a transfer of a home which lasted one month in 1894(part of a Dand inheritance). Harvey remarried a Mary McInnis in Osprey in 1861, after the census. Harvey died in 1898. Mary is listed in 1901 as Mrs. McQuire on the Osprey census. The land listed in the census is not hers. John, widowed in 1891, traveled to Fergus, ON and married a Margaret Shears in 1898. It states that he resides in Osprey Twp. Why can't I find this John L? I have checked the Fergus, Garafraxa, W., Osprey, Singhampton, Duntroon, most of Nottawasaga 1901 census. John had married daughters in Orillia and Singhampton in 1901, who left home and it is unlikely they were close to John, and one of his three sons living with a cousin in Duntroon listed as adopted. Margaret Shears is listed as 29 on the marriage reg. John is listed as 40, but he is 42 or 43. It is possible they had children but we have looked on the birth reg. up to 1902. The hope is that with a birth registration that it is possible to find where he was living. Is 1902 too soon to stop looking? I have to order the reels by year from Salt Lake. Fergus is far enough away from Feversham that John must have known this Margaret Shears before time. I can't find John Shears in any census that matches. Help!!!!!! Bonnie in California
