Hi Susan Thanks for reposting the message to the Grey Co list. I hope you don't mind my CC'ing the Isle of Mull mailing list as well with this reply. The default setting reply to sender only is designed so that when the digest mode (where multiple posts are lumped into one larger e-mail) subscribers will not be able to resend the entire digest. Being a true Scot I hate seeing valuable space on the rootsweb system being wasted. I'm a firm believer of cutting and pasting information.. With that in mind. I did a bit more digging in the McLean lines and have came up with a few tidbits of information on Malcolm McLean from the 1881 census having a child named Charlotte. Looks like the same family from the 1871 census previously mentioned. Previous posting can be found at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/CAN-ONT-GREY see Sept. 2003 From the 1881 Census Place: Elora, Wellington Centre, Ontario, Canada Source: FHL Film 1375895 NAC C-13259 Dist 152 SubDist C Page 19 Family 97 Sex Marr Age Origin Birthplace Malcolm MCLEAN M M 52 Scottish Scotland Occ: Carpenter Religion: C. Presbyterian Once again from the Farm Lanes of Bentinck pg. 178 Lot 41 Con 3 WGR (West Garafraxa Road) quote James McDonald was the son of Peter McDonald and Catherine Clark. His family had previously lived at Lot 29 Con 2 WGR. (Could this be the same Peter????) Now checking out Lot 29 Con 2 WGR. pg 114 quote. Jim McDonald was the son of Peter McDonald & Catherine Clark who were natives of the Isle of Mull. Argyll, Catherine Clark was the third daughter of John Clark and Janet Marquis of Fidden Farm, Ross of Mull, Argyll, Sct. She and her husband Peter had one other son Nicholas McDonald. Jim McDonald married Catherine MacDonald (no connection) Now I know we have a couple of descendants of John Clark and Janet Marquis on the list maybe they could add some information here as well. Is this the Malcolm McLean who was a sibling of your Mary Flora McLean wife of James Jones. Were they also from Mull???? Were Malcolm and Mary Flora the children of widow McLean in Bentinck, Grey Co., Ont in 1851???? If you have access to the 1901 census for Elora, Wellington Centre, Ont. Malcolm might have the year of emigration listed.. If you care to check out the Isle of Mull web site goto www.mullgenealogy.co.uk Ian the webmaster provides subscribe tabs on the web site for the Mull mailing list as well. (I host that list as well) later Ida Susan wrote: <snipped version> I've only had a chance to look at the 1871 census and only for Bentinck > > (E), Div. 1.
