Hi All: I am new to the list. I am researching the THOMAS FAGAN/FAGIN family who lived and farmed in Gleneleg township. Thomas' wife name was Jane SMART. Both Thomas & Jane and their eldest son Thomas Jr. immigrated from Ireland between 1847 and 1850. Thomas Fagan/Fagin purchased Crown Land in 1868. Concession 3 in SW Toronto Syndenham Road near Markdale Ont. He purchased 3 lots 98.99, and 100 making a farm of 150 acres. He later sold the land to Moses Leslie in 1881. However, Thomas & Jane and their 9 children immigrated to the USA in 1878. Their daughter Isabella married in Canada prior, so only 9 out of the 10 children went to the USA. I am hoping to find out more information about the Fagan/Fagin family i.e life stories, pics or anything else. The family are on the 1861, 71 census and all of their children except Thomas Jr were born Canada West.
Hi Joyce Welcome to the list. I haven't noticed many Fagan/Fagin/Fegan other than the one's you've mentioned in the Glenelg 1861/1871 census. Here's one that appears to fit into Thomas & Jane's family though. Could she be your Isabel? Maybe the J should be an I... From the transcribed Co Marriage Register of Ont, 1858-1869 vol 33 Grey Co. Hewitt Joseph, 20 Glenelg, Canada, s/o Joseph & Hannah (Lyon) married 14 Dec 1867 Anne J Fegan, 19, Glenelg, Canada, d/o Thomas & Jane. In the 1871 transcribed census listed as ref # 114 Div 3 Joseph 24 b Ont W. Methodist, Irish, Farmer Ann 23, Anna Jane 2, John Henry 1. I hope it helps later Ida Joyce Fischer wrote: > > Hi All: > > I am new to the list. > > I am researching the THOMAS FAGAN/FAGIN family who lived and farmed in > Gleneleg township. Joyce After Eileen's posting from the Wesleyan Methodist Baptismal Register. I checked out the 1851 census for Artemesia. Here I found your Thomas Feagan, farmer b Sct, Old Presbyterian aged 28 his wife Jane aged 26, Thomas aged 6 b Sct, Isabella aged 4 b Canada and John aged 2 b Canada.. on pg. 9 In the 1861 census for Artemesia pg. 49 I found the John & Agnes family listed as. John Feagan, farmer, Ireland, E Methodist, age 38 Agnes sorry can't read the place of birth aged 26 Thomas b U Canada 4 William b U Canada 1 Bill Martin has web pages of the 1864 agricultural censuses pages. Maybe you'll find your Fagans listed there as well. (Sorry I can't locate his location in my bookmarks at the moment) 1871 census Artemesia lists only a James Fagan 36, b Ireland, C of England, farmer, wife Elizabeth age 28 Ont. good luck later Ida
