Hello all, I've been lurking a few weeks, thought I ought to speak up. I've been living in Grey (Proton actually) for 5 years, we've been in Canada a total of 10 years. I have no Canadian ancestors, but I like to keep in touch with the local stuff for several reasons. 1. I like to return favours for all the help I've received from other genealogists over the years. To this end I have a website (see below) and I'm happy to look things up locally. There are a few small graveyards near here, which I'm planning on photographing and mapping when the weather allows. 2. Some of my children will obviously be marrying into old Grey families and I'll be needing to hone my skills on local genealogy. My daughter is engaged to a GALBRAITH, a family who've been in the area an awfully long time. 3. I might be able to "meet" on-line some of the folk who use Owen Sound LDS FRC, and not feel so silly when I go there! Is there a local society where genealogists meet? 4. Even though it's not "my" history, I'm quite the history addict and have become very interested in the local history.
