Hi Tom I thought there might be a Chesterman in the listing of Canadian Methodist Ministers 1800-1925, but unfortunately not! http://www.rootsweb.com/~cancmhs/a-c.htm Edith Bassingthwaighte ebassing@shaw.ca -----Original Message----- From: can-ont-grey-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:can-ont-grey-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Tom Beatson Sent: Wednesday, October 04, 2006 12:50 PM To: can-ont-grey@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CAN-ONT-GREY] Meaford, Agenbough, etc. On Oct 2, 2006, at 8:39 PM, Ted Smith wrote: > Hi Tom, > > The following information was obtained from the Wesleyan Methodist > Baptismal > Registry. <snip> Thanks Ted, but the Chestermans you found do not match up with any of mine. However, it's interesting that you were looking in the Methodist records, because according to family legend, my 2Ggrandfather DJ Chesterman was a Methodist minister. I don't know if he was ordained or not. After this Chesterman family of 3 returned to England for the 1861 and 1871 censuses, they returned to Lanark County, Ontario for the 1881 census, and were recorded as being Methodists. This was also declared in the 1882 marriage record of son George. I don't know what drew DJ and Martha Chesterman to the Meaford and Owen Sound area in 1855-1860, but I suspect it had something to do with the Methodist church, and perhaps the Underground Railroad.
