Hello List, I am a newbie looking for information on the surnames Mathews and O'Connor of Sydenham Township, Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada. Below is a list of Mathews and O'Connors that came in to the U.S. in the late 1850s to the state of Minnesota. I am aware of a Thomas O'Connor and wife Nora Mathews of Sydenham who sold land to a Joseph Denevan. Can anyone find me information for the O'Connor and Mathews families regarding the Canadian aspect of the families? He came to the U.S. Minnesota in 1856 with his parents. They settled in the vicinity of Shieldsville where his parents opened a general store and trading post. Not long after forced out of business they moved for a short time to Cedar Lake. Then a move to Warsaw where Thomas pre-empted a homestead which has been in the family for almost 90 years. John married Catherine Fitzpatrick on February 19, 1879 in the Shieldsville church. Together they had seven children: John, Charles, Mary, Della, Thomas, George and Clara (Mrs. Henry Voegel).
