I recently started to volunteer at the library of the Ottawa Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, which is housed in the City of Ottawa Archives. Braddish BILLINGS, a son of Dr Elkanah BILLINGS, was one of the first settlers in what is now the capital of Canada. There is considerable interest in the genealogy of the BILLINGS family by visitors to the City Archives and I am attempting to compile a list of the family members. Braddish' sister married Hiram KILBOURN; their son Hiram married Eliza Ann SEAMAN and among their children, daughter Sarah married E W BISHOP. I found an E.W. and S.S. Bishop in the 1891 census and Eleazer W and Sarah S in the 1901 census of Owen Sound, In 1891, George S KILBOURN is living with the family, while next door is the family of F.L. KILBOURN, who could be Sarah's brother Frederick LaPar. I have a couple of the volumes of Greenwood Cemetery transcriptions and in the Northern Extension II, Row 3, is a BISHOP stone which includes E.W. Bishop, Sarah Sophia KILBOURN as well as "Billy" Bishop. I am pretty sure that E.W. and Sarah are Billy's grandparents but I have been unable to find anything on the web to confirm it. It also seem highly likely that his grandmother is the daughter of Hiram and Eliza Ann, and thus a BILLINGS descendant. But, again, I have no proof. I would love to hear from any BISHOPs who could set me straight on the genealogy of the Owen Sound family Mike More mikemore@rogers.com
