    1. [CAN-ONT-GREY] Meaford - Meathford?

    3. I have been exchanging info with my cousin, who has a family bible that belonged to our great great grandparents. It says they were married in 1854 in Agenbough, North America, and their only child was born in 1857 in Meathford, North America. My own research turned up the 1882 marriage record of that child and identified his birthplace as Meaford. Is there any known evidence of Meaford having been known as Meathford? Was Agenbough located in Grey County? Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. Tom Beatson Phoenix, Arizona USA

    3. Hi Tom We drove through Meaford this week - a very lovely area especially in the fall should you ever be able to visit. There are online photos to tempt you at http://www.meaford.com/town/phototour.htm According to the Ontario Locator http://www.geneofun.on.ca/ontariolocator/ Meaford didn't have another name. With the marriage record indicating Meaford as place of birth, I would suspect that there has been a misunderstanding - perhaps a letter home with writing that wasn't quite distinct? I'm not aware of a place called Agenbough but perhaps someone else knows otherwise. Farms/homes sometimes had names so perhaps Agenbough (if spelled correctly) was the name of the home? By the way - why not share the family info, ie names, etc. Help can come from the most surprising of places/people.
