Hi Listers I thought there might be some Grey County THOMPSON family researchers out there who would be interested in the following information. The THOMPSON family I'm referring to were originally English from Lincolnshire with possibly Yorkshire branches as well. Several of these THOMPSONs emigrated to Darlington Township, Durham County, Ontario, in the first half of the 19th century. They then re-located to Scugog Island, and some show up in Euphrasia Township, Grey County, from the 1870s. After that, branches moved to Moosomin Saskatchewan, Michigan and other parts of the USA, and eventually Vancouver, BC. In 1983, a lady named Viola L. YOUNG privately published a history of this THOMPSON family. Her approximately 350-page book "The Thompson Family History" is available for free downloading at the following web site: http://thompsonfamily.pbwiki.com/ This web site is used by a group of THOMPSON family researchers. Feel free to access it, and download the book (.pdf or .doc formats) if it might help you with your research. We are always interested in hearing from others who are related to or are researching this THOMPSON family. ........ Jack

To all transcribers:- There seem to be more 100% districts than others but we still have some unfinished pages in many districts - these are claimed, so either the transcriber goes back to finish the pages or someone may report the pages, with name of transcriber, and request it be unlocked. There is a Message Board for this purpose but above all, read the FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS listed beside where one signs in. Transcribers may find the list of pages transcribed by scrolling down below the list of provinces and territories and click on MY PAGES. At the top will be MOST RECENT PAGES Next will be list of all pages -- there is always some little letter to click on which will take one directly to the page in question. I do not know what might be the heading for those UNDER 50 Lines, but there is one for PAGES WITH MORE THAN 50 LINES. This may assist some transcribers to finish the 50 required lines. CORRECTIONS TO PAGES? After one scrolls down the list of transcribed pages, see CORRECTIONS TO MY PAGES Again, click on one word "review" and you go directly to the page(s). Let's go for 100% and hopefully no unlocking of pages as transcribers possibly lose credit for the page, even if the line count was 49. [Do not worry if line count is 51 or 52 - the enumerator liked writing] As my Co-Chair, Gordon Watts, says -- Enjoy the Census! Muriel M. http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/Test9.jsp?id=93038 PLease, all who want Grey County to be 100%, take a peek at Page 7 --- SEVEN. Note the yellow marks? Does the page go from 1 to 50? I have fixed many of these -- TOO MANY Please complete the whole page Lines 1 to 50 Otherwise the transcribing is good but the person possibly does not want 100% Muriel M. Davidson Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee
Thanks to Lynne have my answer..... Ellen
To all who wish for 100% for Grey County:- The standing at present of the three districts is:- GREY EAST ------ 98.17% GREY NORTH ---- 82.22% GREY SOUTH -----100.00% I have been finishing many of the pages where often lines and families were skipped -- if the transcriber could not read the writing, it was skipped instead of using the hot-key -- ?? -- and letting proofreaders figure out the name. Last evening I requested assistance on eight pages -- I did get some -- from Brampton, not from Grey County. There are many pages with 24, 37, 44, and other numbers of lines, Start with Show Data, and proofread as you go. When you come to where there is a yellow spot denoting a missed line, jot down the numbers typed. If stopped at 20 and started at 40, you will need to fill in lines 21 to 39. For newcomers to transcribing, at the top of the page where one signs in, there is a line about QUESTIONS -- the answers are great. 100% by Sunday evening ??? Also, if anyone errors in my work, let me know, please - trying to help! Muriel
Have obit for my grtgrandfather's sister, Mrs. Frederick Bruegeman (Nancy)dated Feb 19, 1944 printed in Sun-Times but it does not say where she is buried. Am presuming Hanover as she noted as being one of oldest citizens. Have checked the OCFA site and neither Nancy or Fred are listed. Fred died in 1906. Am aware of how large Hanover cemetery is but does anyone have a transcript? Ellen
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/Test2.jsp?sdid=5814 This evening I fixed eight very mixed up pages at this site -- but am definitely not certain of the surnames -- and in some cases the given name. I did leave those that had not been partially transcribed so there are no more jigsaw puzzles on this page. Will someone who knows the names of the area please go over the pages I finished. I am not a perfectionist but like to be correct. Muriel M. Davidson
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/Test2.jsp?sdid=5817 Click on above then go to VIEW for Page 6. Someone was seeking family history -- or could not make out the names -- but this one reason why this line is not complete. The yellow spots denote lines are missing -- if unable to read the writing, please use ?? in surname -- fill in as much data as possible, then leave it for the proofreaders. On Page 6, the following Lines need to be done Lines 7 to 15 Line 32 Lines 35 to 50 ?? is the "hot-key" -- and if Grey County wants 100%, these pages must be completed -- they are like jigsaw puzzles. Muriel M. Davidson
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/Test2.jsp?sdid=2779 I checked the above district and believe it or not, there are at least FOUR pages with less than 50 lines - claimed by Patricia Waugh. We need 50 lines, even if some are blank to reach the 100%. Some pages may have 51 or 52, depending on the enumerator. ONLY the one who claimed the pages may finish them. Muriel M. Davidson Canada Census Committee Brampton
Is there any way to have some of the incomplete pages "unclaimed" so that Grey County can also be completed 100%? It's SO close!! -----Original Message----- From: Muriel M. Davidson [mailto:muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca] Sent: July 25, 2006 7:47 PM To: CAN-ONT-SIMCOE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [C-O-S] 1911 Census microfilms?? Hello Mary and other readers! Did you know when we are transcribing the complete IMAGE of the census is on the screen -- except Automated Genealogy ends with the column giving the AGE. Using the mouse, it is easy to move to the RIGHT. There you will find original nationality, a date of immigration, citizenship, religion and occupation. There are also numbers, for example 23.1.0.0 Gordon likely knows what these means -- it has nothing to do with money, Give it a try -- all parts of SIMCOE are now 100% available, thanks to a friend in Halifax -- otherwise Simcoe North would have been opened Aug. 4 Let me know how you make out -- and if problems, there is a small/short URL near the top, Copy and Paste that, then give the page and line numbers. OOPS! I finally read your address -- British Columbia is about 50% transcribed -- lots of pages to do -- several of my group are working there. Should anyone wish to pitch in and transcribe, just ask for directions! I am researching the MARTIN-BROWN family of Currie, Midlothian, Scotland, in particular, their son Alexander MARTIN, b abt 1830. What I know first learned about him is as follows: "Alexander MARTIN - I don't have a death date, but he married a Betsy McLEAN and they lived near Gravenhurst. A note from letter dated 1978 states Alexander died in comparative youth and is buried in an old pioneer cemetery at Meaford. Alex had a nick name "Sandy". He had 2 sons who were blacksmiths around Gravenhurst and a daughter near Mimico." I have learned since that he died about 1878 - no death record found. He emigrated to Canada in 1848, first settling near Mimico, where he appears in the 1852 census. After that I have not been able to find him in subsequent census. I am guessing that he lived for a time near Meaford, before going to Gravenhurst. His daughter Elizabeth, was born 1858 in Mimico and married James RICE; they lived in Etobicoke and his sons I think were James and Alexander - birthdates unknown. If anyone recognizes this family or knows how to access records of this pioneer cemetery at Meaford, please let me know. Bonnie (Acheson) Anderson Kitchener, Ontario bonma@rogers.com
Nicholas Stecher/Stitcher died in Grey County on Nov. 16, 1903. He is buried in St. George's Cemetery. In the book "Farm Lanes of Bentinck" he is referred to as the Allan Park shoemaker. Was hoping that someone who has access to the Hanover Post on film would check for an obituary or death notice that might have more information. Nicholas might be my fourth great grandfather who left his wife and children in Michigan and returned to Ontario. Thank you Carol McBurney Bokas
