To all -- I know Owen Sound has grown over the years -- but I never realized there would be so many districts on the 1911 census records. If you are familiar with the names -- that is an advantage -- go to http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/ Then click on ONTARIO and when the long list of districts appear, click on GREY NORTH -- about 90% Grey East and Grey South are both 100% KEPPEL is another area that needs a bit of transcribing. Let me know if you are willing -- or if you want instructions. Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee Brampton, ON
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/Test2.jsp?sdid=5835 When you click on above URL, you will find there are many pages waiting to be transcribed by someone who might know the names in the area. If anyone desires instructions please write -- we want 100% Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee
To all -- I am generally snooping around for percentages and was pleased that Grey East District is now 100.00%, as well as Grey South District. Grey North District is at 85.84% and needs a few people who know the surnames (if possible) to bring this one to 100% http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/Test3.jsp?did=73 This is the balance of Keppel Township and Shallow Lake. and I can assure you, transcribing can be fun - but addictive! Should anyone be interested and need help, let me know. I have instructions set up and ready to be posted! Muriel M. Dear RootsWeb mailing list subscriber, We are excited to announce that in the coming weeks, the RootsWeb.com mailing lists will be moving to a new list management system. Why? The new list management system offers updated technology, better spam control, and more efficient hosting of the lists. When? All the lists won't be updated all at once. In fact, once we start it will take us about two weeks to complete the process. We've posted the additional details about the update and a current update schedule at the link below. http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/migrate_sched.html This page can also be found by following the link found on http://lists.rootsweb.com. If there are any changes to the schedule, we'll update this page to let you know. How will it Affect You? Your current subscription(s) will automatically transfer to the new system so there will be no need to re-subscribe to your list(s), however, because the sending and receiving of list email will be handled by a new system, you may notice a few changes to your list(s). Digest subscribers will notice a small difference in the layout, volume and issue numbers of the list digests. The "-L" is being dropped from the "official" list name. This means the "from" address your mailing list emails come from will be slightly different- ListName@rootsweb.com vs. the current ListName-L@rootsweb.com. You may have to adjust your spam filters or put the new address on your "accept" list to prevent it from being caught in your "junk" folder. This sounds like a big change, but it doesn't have to change the way you use the list. Here's why: - You will still be able to send messages to the list using the "ListName-L@rootsweb.com" email address you use today. Additionally, you can choose to drop the "-L" and send your messages to ListName@rootsweb.com. Both addresses will work after the list has been migrated. - You will still be able to subscribe and unsubscribe to the mail or digest mode by sending your request to ListName-L-request@rootsweb.com or ListName-D-request@rootsweb.com as you do today. You will also be able to unsubscribe from the mail or digest mode by sending your "unsubscribe" message to LISTNAME-request@rootsweb.com. The tools that list administrators use to manage their list will also be changing. If you are a list admin, you will be contacted in an additional email on Monday with more details and a link to a tutorial. We're excited about the improvements to the lists because we feel confident that they will ensure that the mailing lists continue to run smoothly for years to come. We appreciate your patience while we make this transition and hope that the RootsWeb mailing lists will continue to be a valuable tool in your genealogy research. Thanks, The Rootsweb Staff ********************************************** You received this message from RootsWeb as a one-time email notification of upcoming changes to the mailing list(s) you subscribe to.

To all:- Pages have been unlocked in various areas of Ontario and Quebec when the district reaches 99% - requests may be left with description to the Message Board. If any transcriber has forgotten pages "not quite finished", I find it is easy to spot them in the "Latest Pages" and also in the "Pages with More than 50 Lines" There will be a little letter in blue (I believe) and this takes one directly to the page. Otherwise, we have to post notices on the Message Board, the name is removed and someone else gets the credit. Percentages of those not in the 100% Club:- ONTARIO ---------------87.86% MANITOBA ------------72.01% QUEBEC----------------62.28% SASKATCHEWAN-----45.18% BRITISH COLUMBIA--44.59% ALBERTA---------------33.20% My group now numbers 24 and we cover all above provinces, with another to start in Alberta tomorrow. Hi All, I am grateful to Ann J. for providing information on my grandfather's siblings in 1911 Census of Ontario - Grey East/21 Proton page 7. Just wondering if anyone knows anything of Donald McDonald (b1862) married to Jemima Francis (b 1872) and their children, Rachel(b 1901), Johnny (b1904), Muriel(b1906) Jacob(b1909) or of Donald's sister Catherine(Kate) McDonald (b1876) her husband William Wilson (dead by 1911) and their children, John (b 1902), Rachel(b1904), Margaret (b1906), Florance (b1908). Donald and Kate were born in North Uist, Scotland. Have found a reference in Dundalk Cemetery which may be William Wilson (BG - G - 132). Would be grateful for any help. Thanks Kay Bowman
Hi Susie !!!! I was very Excited to read your e-mail. If you are looking for Samuel and Mary Wiley They are not buried in Markdale. I am the unofficial keeper of all things "Wiley" so to speak. I have photos of all your individuals as well as much much more info. I am currently in the process of writing a family history book on our Wiley's Starting with Samuel and Mary Wiley. Contact me off list and I can provide as much info as you like on them. Are you a descendant of James and Adeline....That is one branch that has sort of disappeared from our records. We have lost track of their descendants unfortunately. Please let me know how you are connected. I wish I had of known you were here in Markdale, We could have had a chat and showed you the "mini-family Museum" we have here. I have the transcription of the Markdale Cemetery, and it doesn't look like the parents are buried there. There is one George Lawson listed, but wife's name is not Margaret Drinkle Lawson, it's Mary E. Abercrombie. The same for Samuel Wiley, there are two of them, but one's wife is Lavina Ferris and the other's wife is Annabelle Thompson. To all:- Census percentages of transcribing in various provinces as of time of writing are as follows:- Alberta-------------------32.48 British Columbia----------44.31 Manitoba-----------------71.04 New Brunswick----------99.93 NorthWest Territories---100.00 Nova Scotia ------------100.00 Ontario-------------------87.25 Prince Edward Island----100.00 Quebec-------------------61.51 Saskatchewan------------44.94 Yukon-------------------100.00 Why not transcribe at least ONE or more pages in your province? Should anyone be bilingual -- Quebec has a few lines not finished. It has been stated the transcribing will not be finished until April 2007 -- I belong to a group of 18 -- we say New Year's. The group way is "the way to go" -- with a person who will proofread what you have done. [That reminds me -- I have FOUR districts (many pages) to proofread in Alberta -- in Calgary. One tip -- many of the bottom lines of pages have many blank lines -- if you click on View and see blank lines starting at 31 -- that means you only have to transcribe 30 lines. Please Claim Pages at about 49 -- if at 5 or 6 -- please return to them. That is what is holding up 100% in some districts across Canada. In Ontario -- HINTONBURG -- Carleton County -- it is on notice to be opened and someone else can finish the pages and gain credit.. Also, in Ontario - Bruce, Nipissing, Grey, York South -- with assistance NEEDED in Galt, all sections of Toronto, London, Ottawa. Let's see what the percentages are like next week! Better, I hope Questions will be answered. Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/
