I am looking for any information on Mary McClelland, b. May 20, 1857, Holland Twp. , daughter of John McClelland and Margaret Blackburn. Although I have info on her siblings, I haven't been able to trace Mary after her birth. John and Margaret moved to Holland Twp. From Leeds Co. in 1849 to farm. The family shows up in the 1851 census as McLeland. The other children were Samuel, Jane, John, George, William, James, Thomas and Joseph. Any information would be appreciated. Hi Ted: Here is the entry Ellen was referring to, I think: County of Grey, Division of Holland Twp. BROWN, David Sr., male, died September 26, 1896, age 76 years 6 months, born Ireland, cause - dysentery 9 days, occupation weaver, religion is Presbyterian, informant and physician - Dr. J.S. McCullough, Holland Twp (Grey Co.) 009275-77. I just looked at the original registration and it definitely says died September 26, 1896. Also, the informant registered the death on September 26, 1896 as well. The one which immediately preceeds it is for a lady who died September 14, 1896 and the one immediately after it is for a lady who died Octobert 1st. You are right to check the cemetery book, obit, etc, as when the cemetery was transcribed, perhaps a hundred or so years later, the carving on the stone may have been very difficult to read, and perhaps by then, September resembled November. Since the Meaford Monitor entry you cite gave October 2 as the publication date, that fits with September 26th death date. There are volunteers who will look up obits, cemetery transcripts, etc, if you scroll down to Grey and Grey Bruce on this page: http://www.raogk.com/ontario.htm There may be a small charge but you could email and ask them. The Bruce and Grey Branch of the Ontario Gene Society may also do lookups: http://www.bmts.com/~bgogs/ Best of luck with your search. Marg in Sunny Alberta > >

Hi I am seeking information, and hoping to find someone who is researching the following line. I am looking for information on the sister, maybe half sister of my Great Grandfather Daniel Johnston. Daniel Johnston died in Owen Sound, Grey County, Ontario on July 3, 1932. At this time his obituary stated that his sister Mrs. Elizabeth Webb was alive, and living in Toronto. I believe that Elizabeth married Thomas Henry Webb November 29, 1881 in Rothsay, Wellington County. They had the following family: Thomas John, born August 12, 1883 Tressie (Margaret May Gracie, born April 18, 1885, Married Gerance Edward Haines in Vancouver, 19th of August 1921. Margaret was said to be a widow at this time. Margaret died March 25, 1974 in Essondale, B.C. I believe that Margaret was also a witness to the marriage of my Great Grandfather Daniel Johnston (her Uncle) in 1902 when he married Louisa Hope in Owen Sound. William H., born May 23, 1887 Charles Roy, born April 15, 1889 Maude Jane, born June 13, 1891 Susan Isabella, born September 3, 1893 Archie Hastie, born March 14, 1896 Esther Lillian, born August 10, 1899 I don't believe that Daniel Johnston was the name Daniel was born with, but at this time I don't know what it was. I have reason to believe that his mother was married at least 4 times. I have 3 marriage records for the woman I believe was his mother, and she was a widow each time. I am hoping that there is someone out there that is researching this family, and may have information about Elizabeth, and her parents, brother's, and sister's. I have been trying to break down a very big brick wall for years, and could really use some help. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in Advance Cindy in Saskatchewan

Wilson?, 194 Margaretta Street, Toronto Reg. #004348 I did not find any other marriages up to and including 1922 but the years 1923 and 1924 are now available at the LDS family history centres so perhaps other family members married in those years, or later. Since you have a street address in 1922 for the family, you might be able to trace how long they lived there by asking a reference librarian to look at the Toronto City Directories for, say, 1923, 1924, 1925 (they will look up 3 years at a time), wait a week or so, and ask for 3 more years 1925, 1926, 1927, and so on, to see if they stayed at that address: Click on Ask us Online how, under the heading Virtual Reference Librarian: http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/ask_index.jsp Give them the address and the names of the family members. Without the address, "Smith" might be impossible to trace! Marg in Sunny Alberta Roy and Carol Small wrote: >I am searching for the family of Lewis Carmichael Smith (1844-1904) who >married twice. I am searching for the family of Lewis Carmichael Smith (1844-1904) who married twice. His wives were first cousins, Charlotte Byers (1850-1878), daughter of Joseph Byers and Charlotte Lee. His second wife was Elizabeth Lee (1854-?), daughter of George Lee and Elizabeth Norton. The family lived in Glenelg Township and then moved to the Tilbury area where Lewis died. His wife, Elizabeth, and the family moved to Toronto. The family consisted of 1. Charlotte from the marriage of Lewis and Charlotte b. 1878 - nothing else known 2. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Ann born 1883 married Fred East. She wrote my grandmother until 1964 from Toronto. Had one daughter. 3. Mary Selena born 1885 4. Jane "Jenny" Olive born 1887 5. Robert Lewis born 1889 9. David Mackenzie born 1894 By 1962, only Bob and Lizzie were alive. I have Census records to 1911 for the family as well as birth for the children as well as marriage records for Lewis. Any information on the above family would be appreciated. Sincerely Carol Small
