Margo: I have checked on the 1881 census, but I haven't anyway to prove which one is mine. There are a couple of families and I don't have any children born to them as yet. I went to the library today and looked up Reynolds births on the Ontario Vital Stats. indexes and will now have to wait until the actual films get here, probably after Christmas. I was hoping that there would be a relative jump out of the mailing list for me!! Dear Listers: Has anyone come across these elusive relatives of mine? Elizabeth LONG daughter of Hosea and Luvicy LONG of Maxwell, Osprey, Grey Co. married William REYNOLDS son of James and Mary REYNOLDS of St. Vincent, Grey Co. on Sept 1, 1867 I found them on a extracted marriage record on Family Search. I have been searching for Elizabeth for six years and have finally found who she married. I have not found conclusive evidence to tie her to any census or cemetery records that are on line. If anyone knows anything on these two I would very much appreciate your help. Karen from Saskatoon, Sask.
Fellow listers: I'm looking for information on the families of the following Crawford heads of household, who, in 1881, were living in Owen Sound: Robert Crawford (1835- ) G. David Crawford (1850- ) Any assistance would be appreciated. Doug Pattison Victoria, BC
I am researching the following families, and hopeful of tracing their descendants to the present day. If anyone has any information or conenction to these families, please contact me. Sue Visser has already been extremely helpful! 1.) Christina McLELLAN (b. ca. 1821-1824) and her husband, Duncan McINTYRE (b. ca. 1815-1821), Lot 28, Con. 2 N.D.R., Glenelg Twp. They had: Norman; Isabella; John; Angus; Archibald; Catherine [Katie]; Donald; and Mary Ann. They also brought up an illegitimate grandson, William McIntyre. 2.) Hugh McLELLAN (b. ca. 1824-1829) and his wife, Margaret BUTTER (b. ca. 1832), Lot 27, Con. 2 N.D.R., Glenelg Twp. They had: Archibald; Catherine; Sarah Ann; Norman; Archibald [again]; and Mary Flora; and John Angus. 3.) Euphemia McLELLAN (b. ca. 1831) and her husband, John McLELLAN (b. ca. 1825), Glenelg Twp. They seem to have left the area after the 1861 census. At that time they had the following children: John; James; Janet; and Norman. 4.) Mary McLELLAN (b. ca. 1831-1833) and her husband, Henry COLE (b. ca. 1821), tavern-keeper, Glenelg Twp. They had: Peter; John; Norman; Sarah; William Henry; Hugh; Angus; Archibald; Charles; and Mary Ann. 5.) Janet [Jessie] McLELLAN (b. ca. 1837) and her husband, Alexander MARTIN (b. ca. 1837), Lot 16, Con. 6 N.D.R., Glenelg Twp. They had: Sarah; Ronald; Isabella; Norman; and Mary. 6.) Archibald McLELLAN (b. ca. 1840) and his wife, Janet _____ (b. ca. 1849), Glenelg Twp. They had: Norman. The above listed McLellan children were sons and daughters of Norman McLellan, who died in Scotland, and his wife, Catherine MacVICAR, who also came to Glenelg and was still living there in 1871, but not found after that. There may have been more children in each of the families named. I am also interested in tracing the descendants of Rev. Donald McLEOD and his wife, Lucy Isabella Raye COWAN, of Priceville, formerly of Prince Edward Island. He was born in P.E.I. about 1843, and died at Priceville in 1897. They had Mary Gertrude; John Alexander; Donald B.; Roderick James; Norman Alfred; and Margaret Christabel. Before he came to Priceville, Rev. McLeod had been at Murray Harbour South, P.E.I.; Halifax, N.S.; and Galt, Ont. Many thanks for any information or contacts. George F. Sanborn Jr. 24 Thornton Street Derry, New Hampshire 03038-1628 U.S.A.

To all:- Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate a special family holiday tomorrow -- however, some of us observe two Thanksgivings -- one Canadian, one American. As families gather and remember other family members, this is a great opportunity to obtain signatures to PROVE that we, as Canadians and others with Canadian roots, would like Prime Minister Jean Chretien to present all of us with the Post-1901 census records as a lasting legacy. Petitions continue to arrive daily and by Friday, I should have sufficient to tabulate for Senator Lorna Milne. As you prepare the turkey and pumpkin pies, prepare the petitions for all family members to sign. Downloadable from http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Petition.htm Canadians and Snowbirds with Canadian permanent addresses use the House of Commons and Senate petitions, in either language. Non-Canadians, from any country, use the Non-Resident. Please do not mix American and Canadian addresses -- this has happened before and I have to make a choice and mark off ones that were mixed in. Sorry -- I tried to draw a turkey that would pass Rootsweb!! A bit more practice -- might succeed by Christmas!! Happy signing!!! Senator Lorna Milne and Murray Calder need this type of PROOF!! FYI: Hi, I found this at National Archives...for those of you who think that all Canadian Censuses were enumerated on Mar 31st or Apr 1st, think again!!! These are the dates that people are told to give their age in reference to regardless of when they were actually asked the question. The question for most seems to be posed like this..."How old will you be on April 4, 1881?"...even though they may have been 62 on April 5th and they responded on May 1st, they are supposed to respond 61 since that is how old they were on April 4th. ***************Dates of Census enumerations**************** In most cases, the following list indicates the official enumeration dates for the various census returns. The actual enumeration of the population took weeks or months. Enumerators were instructed to record the information on the census returns as it existed on the official enumeration date. 1825 — Lower Canada (Quebec) taken from 20 June to 20 September 1825 1831 — Lower Canada (Quebec) taken from 1 June to 1 October 1831 1842 — Canada West (Ontario) returns were supposed to be completed by 1 February 1842 1851 — 12 January 1852 (delays led to the late enumeration of the 1851 census) 1861 — 14 January 1861 1871 — 2 April 1871 1881 — 4 April 1881 1891 — 6 April 1891 1901 — 31 March 1901 *********************************************************** Donna Alden-Bugden WinnipegEmerg*REMOVE*@hotmail.com Remove the *REMOVE* part before e-mailing me Emergency Nurse ************************************************************
To all:- Go to my census site and there are questions for the many census years -- I agree a date was picked re age on a certain date -- mixed up some of our records - younger or older!! http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Farm/7843/poll.html There are two sites -- just keep scrolling down on the first page. To all:- Whenever stuffed envelopes arrive at my mailbox, destined for Senator Lorna Milne on YOUR behalf, I thought about the value of a 48-cent stamp - Canadian postage. Many of the envelopes contain only one signature -- these mount up and every one is important. Other envelopes contain many signatures, from all parts of Canada. Many envelopes comes from exotic -sounding places -- Australia, Hawaii, Scotland and my granddaughter is doing some work in United Kingdom and France. When one places the stamp on the envelope, it is with hopes and thoughts of the future -- being able to view OUR personal Canadian heritage and history -- the Post-1901 Canadian Census Records. These will allow us to finish our family histories, search for missing family members -- honestly, I feel each sender forwards his/her dreams of the census being available to all of us. Census petitions are needed -- do not think the announcement by the Hon. Don Boudria was the release of records -- our 1911 are not due until June 2003 -- the 1906 WAS due in 1998. It seems strange we have to PROVE to those in Ottawa that WE desire our census records, intact -- no missing bits and pieces. WE do NOT have to prove this fact to Senator Lorna Milne or Murray Calder, M.P. They are family researchers (also Murray's mother) working for US. Download your selected petitions, House of Commons and Senate for Canadians in Canada and for Snowbirds with a permanent Canadian address -- all others select Non-Resident, please. These are in both official languages, French and English -- and I have attachments. http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Petition.htm Please remember, we can never have too many signatures -- but we do need genealogical societies and family history societies to assist in Canada -- especially in Ontario and Quebec. I am looking for someone on this list who could help me with my webpages. I have been given free webspace with rootsweb.com but don’t have a clue how to place them on their website. To say that I am don’t have a clue what to do would be an understatement. What I need is someone to redone the pages (upload them or whatever magic you must do) so that the cemetery photos can be made available to everyone all the time. I do not expect this to be done for Free, but I cannot pay an hourly rate. If you are interested in helping put my webpages onto rootsweb.com for me, please contact me off list. Many months are work are no good if people can’t get the information. I am sorry if I have broken any rules of this list, however, my aim is to have the cemetery photos out there to assist people in finding their lost family members. Dear Listers: After nearly a month of work I am pleased to announce that I have an updated version of my cemetery photos site, which has more than 1, 500 photos in it. In order to get the best results, I have a master index webpage that will link you to photos covering Carrick, Howick, Minto and Normanby townships. Here is the web address: http://4_townships.tripod.com/cemeteryphotos By no means is this site perfect but it is the best I can do after just adding more than 500 photos. I have lots more to take next year too! All the sites for Carrick townships are linked as they have been placed in volumes, as has Howick, Minto and Normanby townships Your comments and suggestions are most welcomed. Please keep in mind that I have little knowledge on making a web page. Now I would like to challenge all of my fellow Listers to photo their nearby cemeteries and place them online. You can get free webspace from www.tripod.com or if you know all about web pages and their designs you can also get FREE Unlimited web space from www.rootsweb.com Sheila ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----
