Hi Tom ? Are these the Bowles your asking about as there listed under Bowler in the early census for Artemesia??? I'm not related to these people but I was looking through the 1858-1869 Vol 33 marriage transcripts last evening and noted the marriages. The rest was quite simple to do. I haven't located where any of the Bowler/Bowles are buried yet. In the 1901 census there's another family of Bowles in Artemesia. Samuel Bowles b 1832 Ont & Ann Morrow on Con 14 Lot 23. My own direct line of Bowles were not far away just north east of Collingwood in Tiny twp., North Simcoe county.
Does anyone have access to "A New History of Grey County" by T. Arthur Davidson? I would be very grateful if someone could look up Sarah Edith HOWE (d/o Thomas HOWE and Mary HOLE) who married Cyrus BRIGGS (s/o John "Thomas" BRIGGS and Mary ROADHOUSE") in Kimberley, Grey County on Oct. 7, 1874. Also Sarah Edith (Howe) BRIGGS died in St. Vincent Twp.May 9, 1893. TIA Shirley

Hi Joyce Welcome to the list. I haven't noticed many Fagan/Fagin/Fegan other than the one's you've mentioned in the Glenelg 1861/1871 census. Here's one that appears to fit into Thomas & Jane's family though. Could she be your Isabel? Maybe the J should be an I... From the transcribed Co Marriage Register of Ont, 1858-1869 vol 33 Grey Co. Hewitt Joseph, 20 Glenelg, Canada, s/o Joseph & Hannah (Lyon) married 14 Dec 1867 Anne J Fegan, 19, Glenelg, Canada, d/o Thomas & Jane. Hi All: I am new to the list. I am researching the THOMAS FAGAN/FAGIN family who lived and farmed in Gleneleg township. Thomas' wife name was Jane SMART. Both Thomas & Jane and their eldest son Thomas Jr. immigrated from Ireland between 1847 and 1850. Thomas Fagan/Fagin purchased Crown Land in 1868. Concession 3 in SW Toronto Syndenham Road near Markdale Ont. He purchased 3 lots 98.99, and 100 making a farm of 150 acres. He later sold the land to Moses Leslie in 1881. However, Thomas & Jane and their 9 children immigrated to the USA in 1878. Their daughter Isabella married in Canada prior, so only 9 out of the 10 children went to the USA. I am hoping to find out more information about the Fagan/Fagin family i.e life stories, pics or anything else. The family are on the 1861, 71 census and all of their children except Thomas Jr were born Canada West.
I am also researching another family by the name of Knibbs. There were two families, Thomas & Jane Knibbs (my great grand uncle) and Elias & Sarah Knibbs (my great grandparents) immigrated to Canada in 1874 and 1875. Elias and Jane are brother and sister. Thomas (1844-1919) & Jane (1844-1902) came to Canada with two of their three sons. Dennis (1870-1887); Caleb died in Eng as an infant; and James (1874-?) 5 months old. They had two more sons in Canada Samuel (1875-1921) never married; and Alexander (1878-1956) married at age 50 no issue. I have Samuel & Alexander being born in Grey County, no actual place. When Jane died Thomas married Eliza Brownridge in 1904. This branch of my family has ended, however I have not been able to find James. He did not appear on the 1881 census with his parents, however there is a Samuel the same age. The passenger list states his name is James. Any help in finding a death record for James is greatly appreciated. Elias & Jane also had two more children, William (my grandfather) and Robert. Both born Collingwood, Ontario. Any information, stories, pics etc regarding the two Knibbs families is greatly appreciated. Thank you Joyce

Hi fellow listers , I know many people are transcribing Ontario marriages and I am looking for a few of mine. If SKS has easy access to the film perhaps you could check these out for me. I have checked Mary Crandall's website regularly but have found none of these so far. I am in BC and it's a bit of a problem getting my hands on these. I have this family in Grey county, Collingwood twp, 4th concession, in the 1901 census, so the marriages may be in either county as there were relatives in Simcoe cty Nottawasaga twp as well I am looking for James Franklin to Flora (could be Campbell, parents Duncan Campbell and Elizabeth McDermid? but any of this could be incorrect) marriage ca 1885. This is the most important one but if anyone has them I would also appreciate knowing who the children married. Elizabeth Franklin, spouse unknown, born ca 1887, so this is probably ca 1905 - 1915 Catherine Franklin, spouse unknown, born ca 1892, probably 1910 - 1915 Sanford Franklin, spouse unknown, born ca 1898, probably ca 1920 - 1930 James Franklin was my great-grandfather and we have no information on where he was from or who his parents were so this is a biggie for me. The other 3 are his children, siblings of my grandfather ( I have his marriage registration) and I have nothing on them except that Sanford was still living in the area until his death. I have no info on the women at all, and had never heard of them until I found the census record. There are various possibilities for their spouses. I remember my father talking about McKechnie and Currie families but whether they were relatives or neighbours I am not sure. Thanks in advance for any info, Janice Franklin in BC
Hello listers, Can anyone give me an idea where Anglicans would have been interred in Owen Sound area? I have checked Greenwood Cemetery for the family I am researching (Wilcox's), and they're not there. After searching the OFCA index, I also checked the Wilcox's at the Duxbury cemetery and it's not the right family. This large family lived in Owen Sound from the 1880s at least until the 1950s, and they have to have been buried somewhere! Any help would be greatly appreciated, Tish in Ottawa
Hello every one, if we can help Constance I'm sure she will be forever gratefull.. Dear Kathy, I came across the "Descendants of Arthur Sewell" while searching for "Freeman" surnames on Google. I am related to Eliza Freeman (July 15, 1858 - 1926), wife of Arthur Sewell, 9th child of Arthur and Ann Nancy Sewell and to Mahallah Freeman (abt 1861 - Jan 16, 1949). Eliza and Mahala Freeman were daughters of Simon Freeman and Mary Hazlewood. Mary Hazlewood was apparently the first-born of nine children born to John Hazlewood and his wife, Sarah Custobody. Simon and Mary (Hazlewood) Freeman left her family behind in Perth and Huron Counties, and moved up to Grey County, apparently to be near Mary's aunt, a sister of her mother Sarah, also named Mary. John Hazlewood and Sarah Custobody were from Yorkshire, England. Sarah Custobody Hazlewood, Great-Grandmother of Mary Ann, edith Evaline, Clara A., Richard Walton, Arthur Merton, John Elsemere Roy, Robert H. E., Walter herbert, William james, Frederick Albert, Thomas Hubert, Arthur Ransford, John Edgar, Harold Sylvester, Olive Menetta, Gordon Russell, Richard Wesley, and Horace E. Sewell, was born near the city of York in 1807. She was the daughter of George Custobody, by his first wife, Elizabeth Barker. George Custobody was one of the first people buried in York Cemetery (d.1838). He also had two daughters by his third wife, Ann Hood, who had offspring in the city of York. George Custobody is a brother of Mary Custobody Cottom, my Great-Great-Great Grandmother. George and Mary Custobody (his sister), were children of John Custobody and Frances Bilton. John Custobody was the third child of George Custobody and Abygail Barker of Stamford Bridge (Catton Parish, YKS). Could you please forward this email on to whoever is responsible for the wonderful writeup about all the descendants of Arthur Sewell? Or please write back to me and let me know how I can contact them. I had come across the Sewell families in the 1881 Census of Grey County, Ontario, and by cross-checking with Ontario Civil Birth Index, ascertained two of Simon and Mary Freeman's daughters had married Sewell brothers. I back-tracked to the 1871 Census to establish that Mahala and Eliza were indeed daughters of Simon Freeman and Mary Hazlewood. Descendants of John and Sarah (Custobody) Hazlewood's other eight children continue to live in Ontario. One of them keeps a website about the numerous family lines. Please contact me as whenever it is convenient. My home telephone number is: (650) 579-7582. My home address is: Constance E. Williams, 705 First Avenue, San Mateo, CA 94401. If anyone should ever telephone, please bear in mind I live in the Pacific Time Zone, three hours behind Toronto. When it's 9 am in Toronto, it's 6 am, but I don't know it, because I'm still sleeping. Your site is very artfully arranged and pleasing to the eye. I'm not sure how the Sewell family fits into the overall scheme of your website. Thanks so much, Connie Williams [email protected] p.s. I write a family newsletter and have many details about the family. I can put the Sewell descendants of the two younger sons in touch with Cheryl Smelser, who has all the data on that branch of the family (but nothing about the Sewell line). __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Hello All: firstly before some one shoots me I'll warn you this message is going to The York, Peel and Grey lists. I finally managed to sneak a few minutes and get into the library at Western University. There they have the two volumes "The Ontario Photographers List" #1- 1851-1900, and #2 - 1901-1925 by Glen Phillips. I had a list of 48 photographers names from my old photographs and though I'd share my findings with you, hopefully it helps some one. One caution though, I realized when I got home I did not check volume 2 for names that I found in volume 1 so if a time frame stops in 1900 it may continue beyond that, which means at some point I'll have to go back and check some more. Don't know when that will be though. Jim TORONTO Photographer Address Time frame Comments Adamson J. H. ADAMSON 472 Yonge St 1899\1900 Barrett Studio Augustus BARRETT 327 Yonge St 1895\1900 N.
