Could someone please tell me where to find both of these cemeteries starting out from the Flesherton main corners. Thanks.

Hello Fellow Listers! I have just received this week the Justice File from the National Archives of the COOK TEETS murder trial in 1884. This man was married for a very short time to my great great aunt ROSANNAH LEPPARD. She was poisoned by aresenic and he was arrested, tried and convicted. However, as I have stumbled onto this story and founds bits of information, it appeared to me that this blind man was most likely innocent of the crime and some other person killed Rosannah. I am more firmly convinced of this now. Included in the file are 2 petitions for clemency sent to Ottawa. One is from 3 Barristers in Ontario - the signatures are questionable so I will try to get as close as I can: SAMUEL PLATT of OWEN SOUND JOHN CREASOR? of OWEN SOUND S. NEVEE? - does not say where he is from The second petitions has 181 men's names (with occupations listed) on it!!! Most of the homes are listed as ARTEMESIA, EUPHRASIA, FLESHERTON, or MARKDALE. At some point I will try to get this list typed up as best I can (transcription of signatures is so much fun!!) and post it to this list. In the meantime, if you have special interest in these areas, please feel free to email me and I will check for a surname. Some of the names include: SMITH CLARK BENNETT BEST LEMKE BLAKELY SIMMONS RUTLEDGE STRAIN DONKIN TEETER (a witness at the trial and neighbours to the TEETS family) WRIGHT BARNHOUSE WATTS HAMSWROTH JOHNSTON STEWARD PARK WARLING SILVERTHORN CARSON BUCHANAN (several of these) GALBREATH PENELTON FLETCHER PORTEOUS and many more.....also the doctor's name is SPROULE. Greetings All. The fourth and fifth sessions of debate in the Senate on Bill S-13 - an Act to amend the Statistics Act took place on 14 and 15 May 2003. The extracted Hansard debates for these sessions have been placed on the Post 1901 Census Project website at the URL following my signature. Follow the link for items pertaining to Bill S-13. Senator Comeau in the first session made very clear his opposition to S-13, and indeed any access to Census records whatsoever. In his relatively brief presentation he made reference to breaking the non-existant "promise" of never-ending confidentiality no less than 23 times. Senator Stratton spoke in the second session. In reading the extract of that session I am unsure whether the Senator supports, or opposes the access we seek. I will have to re-read it to make a determination. Senator Kinsella will be the next speaker on Bill S-13. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. In my 1846 Canadian Gazateer there is no mention of either of these towns. It could be pre-1846 (but I would think unlikely) or perhaps a school section with no real hamlet or village that would appear on the landscape. If you haven't already done so you may want to check out the National Archives website in Ottawa to see if there is a listing of these towns as registered post offices. Hope that is of some help. ----- Original Message ----- From: Gordon A. Watts To: Canada-Census-Campaign List Sent: Wednesday, May 14, 2003 2:24 PM Subject: Post 1901 Census -- Third reading of S-13 continued Greetings All. Third reading of Bill S-13 continues in the Senate. The third session of these debates took place 13 May and my extract from Hansard is now online on the Post 1901 Census Project website at the URL following my signature. With the exception of Senator Milne, the only Senators speaking to date are those that oppose the access to Census records that we seek. It would appear that a number of those speaking would approve of greater restrictions on access - including total closure forever -- than those included in S-13. The latest session was adjourned in the name of Senator Comeau who also opposes access. He will be the first speaker of the next session. Again I encourage everyone to write to their parliamentarians to impress upon them the need to remove the conditions and restrictions that Bill S-13 imposes on access to Historic Census records. Do it now -- before it is too late!! Happy Hunting Gordon A. I am looking for the marriage registration of SARAH McLEOD, daughter of Alexander McLeod and Mary McInnis, of Sullivan or DerbyTwp., Grey Co. to WILLIAM CAMPBELL. The date would have been after 1871 and before 1881. I have found Sarah living with her parents in Sullivan Twp. on the 1871 census. I have found a Sarah Campbell married to William Campbell on the 1881 census in Sullivan Twp.(Source: NAC C-13262 Dist 156 SubDist D Div 2 Page 95 Family 411) and am trying to determine if she is MY Sarah. I have found her parents listed as family 404, her brother Thomas as family 405 and her brother Archibald as Family 406 on the same census so I am presuming this might be the correct Sarah. In her brothers obituary notice in 1904 she is listed as "Mrs. Campbell of Derby County". Is anyone connected to the McLeod/Campbell family? Any help would be appreciated. Eva
A few weeks ago a Mr. Keith from Calgary, Alberta sent in a query asking for information about his Keith ancestors who left Scotland and settled in the township of Egremont, Grey county around the 1850's. I answered back that I had information on his family and would send it to him if he would email me his address. I inadvertently removed his email address while attempting to remove scam mail which has increasingly become a major pain in the neck for many of us. Please send me your address again. Yours truly, Norman Lam
Hello List I will be unsubscribing for awhile as I have to have surgery on Tuesday, the 13th. Thank you all for the help I have received in my research. I will be back as soon as I am able. Cheers Pat --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Orillia ProNet with Declude AntiVirus]
I have recently found an 1861 listing for the above and Gilbert KEITH (who I believe is a brother of Peter) in the townsip of Egremont, County of Grey. It was located towards the end of film reel C1026. The question I have is the way the occupations are listed and the home and families in the home. First, Peter KEITH is listed as farmer and Gilbert KEITH is listed as labourer. Is the 'farmer' basically the one that runs the farm and the labourer is the 'assistant'? It also says that there 2 members of the family, so I would assume Peter and Gilbert. But, when it states the type of home being log & one story, it says that two families live in the home. Could the next family listed as GILLIES be the second family? The reason I ask is that Alexander GILLIES is listed as labourer right below the KEITH's. Alexander's wife is Flora, so I am wondering if there is a connection between the KEITH's and GILLIES. Just a shot in the dark. Does anyone on the list have any ideas? I look forward to your replies and thoughts. Brad Calgary, Alberta

To Mr. Paul Bonwick, M.P.:- The government bill, S-13, sponsored by Senator Lorna Milne is finishing the Third Reading, followed by the voting process. Following this, the contentious bill "to release census records" will be presented in the House of Commons. In the past, you have supported other census bills and motions, and this is the first time we are asking for support of Bill S-13. We, as Canada Census Committee members, do not agree with all the conditions outlined by the government -- see below. We sincerely hope you read all the information available, as Bill S-13 imposes undesirable conditions and restrictions on access! http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Score3.htm#ONT The latest column by Gordon Watts is in the Global Gazette http://globalgenealogy.com/globalgazette/gazce/gazce9.htm The column covers all the problems, plus restrictions. An extract of debate in the Senate for one day is at http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Sen70.htm en français http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Sen70_f.htm Canada Census Committee members are requesting Members of Parliament to accept AMENDMENTS, vote in favour of these to get rid of the following restrictions inserted in this government bill:- 1. Removal of Clause 8 -- the supposed "informed consent" clause. If total removal of Clause 8 is not acceptable in the House of Commons, we hope the OPT-OUT provision will be passed. With the restrictions, a census form with NO mark would be regarded as NEGATIVE -- information never to be released. 2. Removal of all restrictions or conditions for access for at least the 1911 and 1916 census -- hopefully for all census records. 3. Removal of the "twenty-year" period during which only partial or "tombstone" information may be disclosed -- also the need to commit to an "undertaking" regarding the partial disclosure. The amendments, if passed, would make the 1911, 1916 and later census records without restrictions, same as for 1901 and 1906. Looking forward to a positive 2003 reply -- only one word needed, which is YES. You or your assistant may reply by e-mail. Muriel M. To all:- I have been plagued with pop-ups plus "other" photos, so mentioned this to my talented webmaster, Bryan Keddy. He surprised me with an early Mother's Day gift -- so I am sharing this coast-to-coast-to-coast site with everyone! http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Farm/7843/poll.html has been changed to a new address http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~downhome/post1901census.htm It is WORK IN PROGRESS -- the final finishing touches, but all sites are listed -- many links from across Canada. Hello I am currently seeking information on the marriage of Bernard ALLEN (b. January 04, 1849) and Rebecca COOK (b. July 23, 1855). I believe it took place in Ontario, Canada (possibly Bruce township) as this is where they were both born and later lived. I believe they had at least 5 children (Fanny, Margret, Henry, Andrew and Willie). At present the only information I can locate comes from the 1881 census and the 1901 census. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Jennifer
