Once again I need help from the list. I have finally found my Grandfathers father but again another brick wall. I am looking for information on WILLIAM CHARLES SMITH b. ? He was married to ELIZABETH STEPHENSON b.? They were farming in St Vincent in 1892 when my grandfather was born (William John Smith) I know my Great grandmother Elizabeth Smith lived at 969 6th Ave. West, Owen Sound, in 1917. ( do not know when they changed to numbered streets from named streets) Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Bryan Edwards

Here is one suggestion -- use Access To Information. There is a form on the census pages at http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/1911ati.htm The form available there is for general purpose -- we have been sending in ATIs to get the 1911 census released. The cost is only $5.00, and if not the proper one, you will be told. There is also a Census Information office, but the cost is total $48.15 -- I have that address -- but suggest the ATI Muriel M. Would someone be able to tell me how I might access the records of the Hospital for the Insane in London, Ontario? It has been awhile since I last asked for help. I thought I would try again. I am looking for the family of Robert Thompson, b. 1823 in Ireland and died in 1881. Wife Catherine Ann Baldwin, b. 1836 in Ontario and died 1881. They died within four months of each other. They lived on Lot 7, Concession 8 in Derby, Grey County, which they bought on October 30, 1867 from William C. Scier (?). They sold some of their land in 1869 and sold out to Arthur Torrie in 1877. I connot find where they went or where they are buried. Robert is listed as Church of England and Catherine as W. Methodist. The children are mixed, but the last three are listed as Anglican. I suspected they attended St. James Church in Derby, but it closed in 1926 and I don't know where the church records are. Is there a cemetery? They left the following children: James:b. 1852, Robert William:b. 1854, Charles W. and John W.:b. 1856, Margaret M.:b.1858, Sarah Jane:b. 1860, Howard:b. 1864, Nelson:b. 1865, Albert Edward:b. 1867, Mary Jane: b. 1869, Martha:b. 1872 Jeanette:b. 1875. I cannot find anything about the children or where the parents moved or where they are buried, except for Albert Edward, who is my grandfather. Any help, directions, etc. would certainly be appreciated. Gerri Nordell Valley, NE USA

Hello Lynne and Sandy, I would also be very interested in information about "Free Land Grant Testimonials". Where are they filed? How does one access the information? To all who desire release of the 1911 and later census records:- To date, Bill S-13 "to amend the Privacy Act", has travelled through the Senate and has had First Reading in the House of Commons. So far, Second Reading has been announced, but work has been done on other government bills, for example, Bill C-24 today -- and possibly tomorrow. Many researchers are filling out Access To Information forms, with full details available at this site:- http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/1911ati.htm A legal action has also been posted for the 1911 census. After Bill S-13 has had Second Reading, it is sent to the Committee stage, with Ontario having five appointees to the main committee -- plus 93 others! Cheryl Gallant [email protected] Brian Masse [email protected] / [email protected] Brent St.Denis [email protected] Paddy Torsney [email protected] Joseph Volpe [email protected] Check and see if above will ensure Bill S-13 has NO restrictions, write to them, ask for their support http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Score3.htm#ONT Genealogy societies are requested to send ATIs and letters. Hello, If I were to search for newspaper items about my family who resided in the Dornoch area of Grey County between 1851 and 1925, what newspaper would I search? In an ongoing attempt to locate the burial site of ALEXANDER McLEOD (died Derby Twp. Grey Co. February 13, 1895) and his wife MARY McINNIS McLEOD (died Sullivan Twp., Grey Co. September 13, 1898) I have checked maps of that time and have located two churches with what appear to be adjoining cemeteries. The first is located at Con. 8 Lot 1 Derby Twp. (Keady P.O.) and the second at Con. 8 Lot 10, Sullivan Twp. (just to the north of Desboro). Could someone advise me what the names of these churches were, did they have a cemetery adjoining, and do they still exist. I have come to a brick wall in trying to locate a burial place for Alexander and Mary and any help would be greatly appreciated. Eva
Dear List Members: Due to circumstances beyond my control I have not been able to have on line tombstones photos covering most of the cemeteries in the following township: Carrick, Howick, Minto and Normanby. Not only has my web site been off line since November of last year, but also I stupidly deleted more than 250 photos with the understanding the website was being revamp and would be working shortly. I first wish to apologized to all the people who have patiently waited or wrote me about the website being down. I have learned a valuable lesson. In a feeble attempt to get the website up and running again on my own, I have listed the appropriate web addresses. CARRICK ( Bruce county) http://monuments1.tripod.com/vol2carrick/ HOWICK ( Huron county) http://monuments1.tripod.com/vol2howick/ MINTO ( Wellington county) http://monuments1.tripod.com/ NORMANBY ( Grey county) http://monuments1.tripod.com/vol2normanby/ Please be aware that the sites are far from perfect, it is the best I can do under the circumstances. I hope to be able to get them back in shape, but of course this will require time. Again you will find errors, maybe even blank pages. I am truly sorry. Anyone who would like to submit photos to any of the website please contact me : [email protected] Thank-you Sheila
