    1. [Grey Co.] WILL DO LOOKUPS
    2. CDHS 1998
    3. Hi List members! Have the 1901 census for Normanby township and All of the MI for Normanby township cemeteries. Will do lookups, BUT, you must give me a name , RELIGION ( this is helpful for the cemeteries) . Please only one surname per request and be forewarned that you might have to wait a day or so. To anyone who is looking for other information, why not try the Clifford & District Historical Society webpage which has a lot of information on Normanby under the heading of RESOURCES. The resources cover births, death, marriage and some newspaper clippings. It takes in the townships of Normanby, Minto, Howick and Carrick. In the works now, and should be ready to go on line is Four Township Cemetery & Tombstone Photo Website. >From Normanby the only missing photos are Chapel Hill and St. Peter's R.C. Cemetery in Ayton. Photos are welcomed. Please DONOT send me any photos unless you e-mail me in advance. I do not open attachments unless I know who they are from . There are more photos to be added to the ACTIVE cemeteries in Normanby as well as the other active one elsewhere. Here the link to see the photos. Sorry it is so long. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~silentguardians/four_townships/june_uploads/index.html Thanks Sheila P.S. Please put your subject line as LOOKUP and then the surname.

    1. [Grey Co.] Post-1901 Census: MORE ATIs Needed -- We All Want the 1911 Census!!
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all:- Access to Information forms reports to both National Archives and Statistics Canada has slowed down -- summer-time??? Some have already been rejected, have sent a complaint letter to the Information Commissioner of Canada. Sincerely hope all have saved a copy of their ATI request and complaint letter for Gordon A. Watts. To understand what we mean, go to the following site http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/1911ati.htm Gordon has provided addresses for both Statistics Canada and for National Archives. You may copy his statement, if you prefer, but the statement must be general and ONLY request the 1911 census which was supposed to have been released June 1, 2003. [YOU cannot ask to search for any names -- that costs $48.15.] The form is the same for each one -- only change department in "Federal Government Institution" [National Archives or Statistics Canada] http://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/gos-sog/forms/Acc-pri/350-57_e.rtf [Form may be saved in Wordpad - filled in on computer] A cheque for $5.00 must be sent with each form, made out to Receiver General of Canada [BONUS:- We may have a refund from National Archives!] Following YOUR letter of rejection (copy for Gordon), complain to John Reid, Information Commioner of Canada. The waiting period is at least 30 days plus "snail mail" time allowance. We apologize that only Canadians may send Access to Information forms -- but some "below the 49th" have relatives who do this for our American relatives -- the name and address must be Canadian! As we are paying the salaries of those in both departments, not directly, but through other means, let staff members remember the summer of 2003 as BUSY! Bottom line - we want the 1911 records released intact without any restrictions or stupid little tick-off boxes on 2006 census, etc. [Should anyone have questions -- please contact myself or Gordon Watts [email protected]] Muriel M. 3. Please remove my e-mail address from your mailing list. Thank you -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, July 25, 2003 4:18 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Grey Co.] McQuarrie's of Grey/Osprey I have found some posts in the archives about McQuarrie connections and no one has the same email address so I can write! I am in contact recently with Bruce McQuarrie who is writing about the family. Finding him was very accidental. Anyway, Bruce and I are 3rd cousins once removed. My family is down from Alexander m. Katherine in 1774 in Ulva/son Lauchlan m. Catherine McInnes/to their son Harvey(born in US) to his son John Lachlan McQuarrie. John Lachlan was born, as far as I can tell, in Brock ON to Harvey's first wife, Elizabeth Robbins. In 1858 Harvey is listed in the land atlas for lots in Osprey. Harvey is on the 1861 census for Osprey. Harvey married a second time to Mary McInnes and had another family. There is a mistake on the 1871 census and John is listed as 2, but this should be Daniel of the second marriage who is 12 in 1881. John Lachlan is mistranscribed on the 1881 census as John McDarrie. He married Marian Dand of Feversham, daughter of William and Marion Dand. They had 6 children, 5 surviving. My grandfather is John James born in 1885. His older sisters married, Margaret married David Tait of Orillia and George Wallace in Vancouver(she knew him in Ontario)and Stella married Richard Redpath and Alf Thompkins. The Redpaths still live in Collingwood! There is a second McQuarrie in the Redpath family, Margaret from the John McQuarrie Jr family of Egremont/Shrigley. I know some of this family and how they all come together in Shrigley. I would appreciate any information about Harvey and his family and John Lachlan and his family all in Osprey. Thanks, Bonnie McQuarrie born in Saskatoon but now living in California ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237

    3. Hi List, Below are the children of Hugh RUTLEDGE, son of Edward and Elizabeth RUTLEDGE. All the children were born in Kinawley, Fermanagh, Ulster, Northern Ireland. Most of the children, except Alice, imigrated to Carleton County, ON, CAN about 1831, with a second group coming between 1836 - 1839. The combined families settled near North Gower, in Carleton Co, ON. In 1835 most of them moved to near Delta, Leeds Co, ON. In the fall of 1850 some of them moved to Markdale, Grey Co, ON and one went to Thamesville, Kent Co, ON. Eventually a few dispersed to Kansas, California, Maryland and other US destinations. I'm particularly interested in Elizabeth RUTLEDGE, my gr gr grandmother, 2nd wife of Henry BURKE. She was born about 1814 and died about Oct 1853 at Carleton Co, ON. She and my Henry had 10 children. I've taken this info, except for Elizabeth, above, from a tree prepared by Harry Edward RUTLEDGE in Jul 1966. He was born in Atchison, Kansas in 1885 and lived at San Rafael, CA. 3. Hi list Last weekend I visited the Grey County Museum in Owen Sound specifically to purchase a township history book. While there I also purchased the "Grey County Map Book 2001" for the very reasonable cost of $5. This is a great map book and also includes maps showing former townships that were amalgamated into the present municipalities - something researchers will find invaluable. Further info is available at http://www.greycounty.on.ca/museum/bookstore.html Cheerio Sue Visser

    1. [Grey Co.] Re My Family Thomson
    2. Lynn Halstead
    3. I recently learned that my great great grandparents marriage notice was in the Galt Dumfries Reformer of 29 Jan 1862 for Agnes Matilda Milroy and John Thomson (Thompson). They were married in Galt on 28 Jan 1862 by Rev. Dr. Thomson (don't know if this is a relation?) in the Presbyterian Church. The groom was from Owen Sound, the bride was of Galt. Is anyone able to send me a copy of this? Via email or regular mail . I "believe" John and Agnes Thomson are buried in the Cedar Creek Cemetery ..is that in the area of Sydenham/ Owen Sound? Is anyone able to verify this info for me? I live in B.C. and would be happy to look up info here in exchange......... thank you very much!

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Shirley Johnson ([email protected])

    3. I am wondering if anyone would know who looks after the Chatsworth Anglican Cemetery. There is a stone there, and I would like to find out if there is any information about any person who would be a family member of the following, and who might be the owner of this plot. Stone #23 Robert KIRKPATRICK, died August 16, 1873, age 73. Stone by W. Manders, Owen Sound. Thanks [email protected]
