    1. [Grey Co.] Jackman
    2. Joyce Fischer
    3. Hi Clarine: I have a Jackman in my family history and I was wondering if you would be able to help me in finding where this couple are buried. The following is what I have. Herbert Henry Knibbs married Elizabeth Scobie (W) nee Jackman July 6, 1915 in the village of Clarksburg, Grey County by licence. I have a copy of the marriage record and this is where I found out that Elizabeth was a widow when she married Herbert. The following is what appears on the record Herbert Henry Knibbs was 47 years of age Elizabeth Scobie was 53 years of age (this would leave her birth to be 1861-62) Herberts residence is Clarksburg Elizabeth's residence if Toronto-Clarksburg Elizabeth's parents are William Henry Jackman and May Cornish Grind Herbert died February 6, 1926. Family members say he is buried in Prince Albert Sask, however the genealogical society researched the records and he is not buried there. I have the feeling he is buried somewhere in Ontario. I have not been able to find the death record for Elizabeth either. Any help is appreciated. Thank you. Joyce

    3. Would someone be available to look up a marriage record for my great grandparents, John McDonell, born 17 Dec 1830 in Scotland and Dorothy McIntyre, born 11 Mar 1850 in Scotland. They were married around 1870 in or near Priceville. I believe their first two children, Allen and Elizabeth were born in this area also. Both are recorded in the 1861 Proton census. John McDonell at age 29, and Dorothy at age 11 with her parents Alexander and Mary and a younger sister named Flora. McIntyre is spelled as McIntire in this census. Any information about where to find their records or other family members would be appreciated. Thanks for any help. Pat

    3. E. & C. M. June 21, 1894 Married: On the 13th inst., at the residence of the bride's father, by the Rev. H. Knox, George KNUFF, Jr., of the Township of Collingwood to Emma, daughter of Joseph VICKERS, Esq., of the Township of Nottawasaga. P8c3 E. & C. M. June 28, 1894 Death: Dr. R. LUNAN. Copied from the Dundee Scotland Advertiser, kindly lent by a friend, the Enterprise copies the following regarding a member of the Lunan family, so well known hereabouts. Dr. R. LUNAN was born at Kinnettles, near Forfar, in 1818. His father, the Rev. Robert LUNAN a native of Lethendy, was a clergyman there, and was married twice, the doctor being a son of his first wife. Of that family there were a son, William, and two daughters. Mr. William LUNAN was Treasurer to the Scottish North Eastern Railway while it existed. One of the sisters was married to Simon ROBERTSON, at one time Harbor master at Dundee, and the other was the wife of the late Dr. EDWARDS, of Forfar. The Rev. G. B. LUNAN, Newtyle was a son of the second marriage. The late Dr. LUNAN studied at Edinburgh University, where he took his degree as surgeon. He then went to Forfar and acted as assistant to his uncle, Dr. W. SMITH, Provost of Forfar. He also made a voyage to Davis Straits aboard a whaler. It was in 1836 that he settled in Blairgowrie, and he soon gave evidence of that energy and independence which has characterized everything he has done since. Dr. LUNAN married Miss RO! BERTSON, a daughter of Mr. ROBERTSON, farmer, Mains of Clunie, and had 12 children, seven of whom survive him. They are Mr. William LUNAN, and Mr. P. R. LUNAN, Merchants, Glasgow; Dr. C. S. LUNAN, Blairgowrie (who has succeeded to his father's practice); Mr. K. LUNAN, India; Mrs. J. KIDD, Mains of Errol; the Rev. Mrs. STEWART, Blairgowrie; and Miss Elizabeth LUNAN, who resided with her father. Notwithstanding the fact that "the old Doctor", as Dr. LUNAN was familiarly called, had been off the active list for a number of years past, there are few in the district to whom his death will not cause heartfelt regret. In all respects Dr. LUNAN was a rare old gentleman, and his name will be held in affectionate remembrance for a generation to come. P8c1 Married: June 26th, at the residence of Captain COLLINS, his granddaughter, Matilda COLLINS to Isaac McEWEN (should be McKeown) of the 12th Concession of Collingwood Township, by the Rev. Dr. Stone. E. & C. M. July 5, 1894 Died: Dr. HUNT of Clarksburg on Tuesday. P8c1 Married: At the Manse on June 27th, Joseph ANDERSON to Annie PRICE, by the Rev. Dr. McCrae, both of Collingwood. P8c4 and c1 History: An epidemic of diphtheria has struck Creemore. All schools are closed and public meetings are forbidden. P8c1 Died : On Friday last, Mrs. Manning BROWN. 1. [Grey Co.] McInnis of Grey Cty
    2. I am trying to find information about Mary McInnis who married Harvey McQuarrie abt late 1861-1863. I think she is the daughter of Hugh McInnis on the 1871 Osprey Census, but I am not sure. The McQuarrie/McInnis links go back to Brock ON and further. Harvey's mother was Catherine McInnis married to Lachlan McQuarrie in Scotland/Mull. Mary is his second wife. Did he know her from Brock/Maple or met her when he took land in Osprey, as a widow, in 1858? A daughter from his first marriage, Elizabeth Ellen, also married a McInnis in Osprey, Archibald McInnis. Coincidentally, in 1881, there are two Elizabeth/Archibald combinations-one in Mariposa and one in Grey Cty. The only clue is a Catherine McInnis is living in the Grey HH as a mother in law. This is the name of Hugh's wife. Same ages, same everything. Any McInnis people have this link? Bonnie McQuarrie in California

    1. [Grey Co.] Jane (BOWES) CREIGHTON - Was she blind?
    2. Shelley Hilton
    3. There is some mention in my family stories that Jane BOWES, born about 1836, wife of James CREIGHTON was blind. I have found the family with 8 children in Owen Sound on the 1871 census and 1881 census online. Can anyone tell me whether checking the actual census (1881 or 1891) would show extra information that might tell me whether Jane actually was blind? (I found her husband James on the 1901 census, but he is a widower.) Or, though I don't know yet when Jane died (before 1901), would her death certificate give this sort of information? Thanks! 3. I have been searching for some time for a couple of early marriages with no luck, so wondering if anyone has ever come across marriages of the following : Jane BOWES and James CREIGHTON (moved to Owen Sound where James was a shoemaker) Elizabeth BOWES and John McCLEAN (a merchant in Owen Sound?) I estimate that both marriages took place sometime between 1848 and 1858. The BOWES family had settled in the Meaford/Singhampton area, but James Bowes and his sons assisted in opening up many roads, in particular, 9th Street West, Owen Sound, and the highway between Meaford and Thornbury. The family story goes that while in Owen Sound, daughter Elizabeth, kept house and cooked for her father and brothers, "met John McLean, a rising young merchant, who she later married, and who was in partnership with his two brothers in a wholesale and retail grocery store." I would love to flesh out these two lines of my tree, so would be very pleased to share and compare information with anyone researching the same. Thanks! Shelley (Bowes) Hilton British Columbia

    1. Re: [Grey Co.] Buried In Cemetaries Or Buried On Their Homesteads?
    2. Elaine Robinson
    3. Hi Sandy, Although I cannot answer your question for Grey County, I do know that in September of 1869 the Village of Georgetown passed a by-law stating that: " it shall not be lawful to bury any Corpse within the limits of this Corporation save and except in the Greenwood Cemetery: also excepting those persons, who now own family plots in the Episcopal and Episcopal Methodist Church Yards, who shall be permitted to bury therein until the said plots now owned are filled" The 1869 date leads me to believe that there was some connection between the new Provincial statutes requiring registration of a death, and laws governing cemeteries. Since the Village of Georgetown enacted their own law, it was probably required that each municipality create their own by-law based on Provincial guidelines. This is a long way of saying, I think you should check with the township or town to see if they have similar by-laws. I have seen microfilm of old township minutes etc. listed at the FHC for some areas. Hope this helps a little.
