Just wanted to take a moment to say how wonderful this list is and I would like to thank everyone who responded to my original post about Zion Cemetery in Glenelg Twp. I now have a clearer picture of where it is and how it came to be. Thanks to Sue V, who along with sending details on the location, sent some details on the McNally's. And thanks to John who gave me more information on the Blair's and McNally's. Thanks to Sandy who sent the description of how and why the cemetery was donated by Thomas and Ann Blair (my ggg-grandparents). And to Lynn, Alvin and Ida, who are connected to my family - thanks for responding and giving me more details. We'll keep in touch. Thanks again everyone - your help is truly appreciated. Cheers, Kim
Kim The location of Zion Cemetary is just south of Townsend Lake at the north-west section of Glenelg Township. Sandy --------------------------------- Find your next car at Yahoo! Canada Autos
Hi Kim The land that Zion Cemetary is on is Lot 6 on Concession 7 in Glenelg. NDR. The land was donated by the owner who was Thomas Blair and his wife Ann Hendrick. Their son Thomas Blair who while working at the Traverston Mill fell into the river, became sick with pneumonia and passed away on January 1, 1857. There was not a graveyard nearby so the Blairs buried their son on the corner of their land. Later on they gave that acre of land to be used by Zion Church as the Zion Cemetary. Hi Kim Sorry I can't clear up where the cemetery is located other than it's in Glenelg twp. But I'd love to chat about your McNally family. My connection is through Mary Jane McNally and Hugh McArthur also buried in the Zion cemetery. later Ida Kim Watson wrote: > > Hello all, > > Can anyone clear up where this Zion Cemetery, Lot 6 Con 7 is and perhaps go further and provide a transcription for my ancestors? Hello all, I have information about my gg-grandparents, who resided in the Durham/Markdale area in the late 1800s and early 1900s, being buried in Zion Cemetery - Lot 6, Con 7 (that's all the info that was given). When I look for a 'Zion Cemetery', I discover there are several, but none within Grey Co (although there is an Old Zion in Ayton). Can anyone clear up where this Zion Cemetery, Lot 6 Con 7 is and perhaps go further and provide a transcription for my ancestors? They were Thomas McNALLY and his wife Jane (nee BLAIR). Some of their children are in the Markdale cemetery, with others in the Durham one. Thanks in advance for any help provided, Kim
Hi. I am interested in some of the Mole lines and wondered if there are any descendants of Edward Mole and Jennie Dixon who would be interested in sharing information. Have someone researching Jennie Dixon's line. I am from Eliza Jane Mole/Charlie Couture line. Leora Wilson
