Hi Marg. Duncan was born in 1804 and Helen in 1808. This according to their stones, and both born in Perthshire, Scotland, and as far as I know both died in Kenmore, Ontario. Can you suggest any other way that I might find this information? I have contacted the Osgoode Twp. Historical Society & Musuem but they have nothing on them except for the pictures of the stones. Thank you very much for your help. Beverly On Monday, March 27, 2006, at 03:47 PM, marg mcfarlane wrote: > Hi: > Only one I could find close in date. Hi Bev: If the deaths occurred and were indeed registered in Ontario, they should be available at your local LDS family history centre. If the LDS does not have the Ontario death index films in stock, they will order them for a nominal fee. You have to get the registration number from the index film for each of the deaths that you find, then with that number you can order the actual death reg. However, they may not have died in Ontario at all. Perhaps they went to live with a relative in another province or state. Or they may have died in Ontario but the deaths were never properly registered with the Province. Registration was supposed to begin in abt 1869 but there were tons and tons of people who never did register their family births, marriages and deaths. Sometimes it was the local assessor, surveyor, a neighbor, funeral home or clergyman who reported these events. And sometimes, they just didn't get reported at all. If that is the case, the only record you may find will be the tombstone or perhaps if the cemetery office or church that they attended has records back that far, you might find an entry that way. The newspaper obit was a good suggestion but back then, unless you were a prominent person, it was usually just a on-liner, if anything at all was published. Have you tried contacting the relevent branch of the Ontario Genealogy Society, main page here: http://www.ogs.on.ca/ Click on Branches to find the one that covers the area you are interested in. You could ask them if they know if any church records still exist for that time period, assuming you know which denomination they were. Sorry!
