    3. Are you certain of the spelling for Joseph? I'm not french but that does not look right to me, could it be Clairmont? To my understanding, all males baptised in the Catholic church where named Joseph as a matter of course, possibly he has another legal name? Lots of luck. 3. The Potvins were a very early family in Bytown/Ottawa. They had a farm c. 1830 near Dow's Lake. Later several branches moved a little farther south to the Gloucester and Osgoode Township areas where they were prominent around 1900. They had the store at Manotick Station then. Some of their relatives were Lecuyers, Clermonts and Bellefeuilles. There are lots of Potvins and a few Clermonts buried at Our Lady of the Visitation Church at South Gloucester (on Bank Street, now part of the City of Ottawa). If you don't find what you are looking for in the records of Notre Dame, check the Visitation films beginning about 1850. It was previously called St. Mary's. The Irish priests spelled "Potvin" with some imagination - Pudvain, Pudvah, etc. By the way, contrary to popular belief, Joseph is not in the top five names of male Catholics. Now, Pat and Mike ... There are some Potvins at http://www3.sympatico.ca/ag.lewis/search.htm (but no Clermonts, yet). ...
