My Great-Great Grandfather, Patrick CHRISTOPHER, married Mary FITZGERALD in 1835 at Notre Dame Church in Bytown. Mary was born in 1819 in Ireland (County Cork). The first couple of generations lived, for the most part, in Osgoode Township, but beginning around 1860, there was a branch of the family who settled near Pakenham and are buried at the Indian Hill Cemetery there. Anyone heard of these folks? Christopher is not a common Irish surname. Family history says that Patrick and Mary met at a tavern in Bytown under the following circumstances: Patrick was dining at the tavern after work, and there was Mary sitting at the next table. He has been checking her out since he sat down, but he lacked the nerve to talk with her. Suddenly she sneezes, and her glass eye comes flying out of its socket towards Patrick. He instinctively reaches out, grabs it out of the air, and hands it back to her. "Oh my, I am sooo sorry," Mary says as she pops her eye back in place. "Let me buy your dinner to make it up to you," she says. They enjoy a wonderful dinner together, and afterwards Mary invites him to go for a stroll with her, followed by drinks. They talk, they laugh, she shares her deepest dreams, and he shares his. She listens. After she pays for everything, she asks him if he would like to come to her place for a night-cap ...and stay for breakfast the next morning. The next morning, she cooks a gourmet meal with all the trimmings. Patrick is amazed!!! Everything has been incredible!!! "You know," he said, " You are the perfect woman. Are you this nice to every man you meet?" "No," she replies........ (Wait for it...) " You just happened to catch my eye." Any info on Patrick and Mary? I have lots to share, but also a few missing pieces. ... Al Lewis E-mail [email protected] Genealogy Web Site: http://www3.sympatico.ca/ag.lewis/search.htm
