These are my g grandparents. I think, but am not positive, that William Robert was born Apr 14, 1831 in Ottawa, Carleton County. . Approx. 1875, he married Jane Russell Spence. Jane would be his second wife, as on the 1881 Canadian Census there is a Belinda who is 18 yr. old and Jane was 27. It is impossible for Jane to be her mother. Can anyone find a record of his first marriage? Would there be any way to prove that the William born in 1831 is the same William who married Jane. They were both Presbyterian. Jane was supposed to be born in Ireland, I don't know where, on Apr 24, 1855 but of Scotch descent. I wonder if Jane was really born 1854. Jane's emigration was supposed to be in 1862 according to the census, so at age 7. Can anyone help me? Can anyone find William and Jane's marriage in Ontario? They had a son Allan Forest Johnson, born in Billings Bridge (where is that) Ontario, who died in Carman, Manitoba. William and Jane moved there later on. There ! was a Violet Jane, Gertrude, Cora May, Armon Harrington, and Benjamin James born in Manitoba. Armon is my grandfather. Hi Peggy, I am not sure where you are living but this book is available in the Ottawa Library Main Branch as well as Centerpointe. "Index to marriage registrations of Ontario, Canada, 1869-1873" compiled and edited by Renie A. Rumpel ; assisted by Carrie J. Slingsby. It should have William and Jane listed. Billings Bridge is a community now in Ottawa, sort of south central. I will look up what I can for you at Centerpointe and I have a contact who does looks ups at the main Branch for me. Canadian census dates were 2 Jan 1852 14 Jan 1861 2 Apr 1871 4 Apr 1881 6 Apr 1891 31 Mar 1901 1881 Census was to be done on 4 April so she would not have had her birthday yet and so could have been born 24 Apr 1855 and list her age as 27.
