Hi, I have just recently traced my YOUNG line to Carleton Co. George Young b.a. 1786, IRL (shoemaker) and his wife Catherine from Carleton Co to Bruce Co before 1861, along with their daughter Mary b.a 1830 and son James. I think their other son was John, but this is unconfirmed. James married Eliza and had William James b: February 02, 1857 in North Gower before moving to Bruce. I believe both George and Catherine were buried in Carleton somewhere as I can't find them anywhere in Bruce Co. Any help or direction would be most grateful Joanne
Hi Joanne, I am interested in all Irish YOUNGs who came to the Ottawa valley. I don't recognize your specific family, but there are many similarities with mine. I have what I know about my family at http://entrenet.com/tal/young/YoungSarah.html I have information about another possibly related YOUNG family at http://entrenet.com/tal/young/YoungGeoElen.html This George Young family intermarried with my family twice an my be related. My Irish great grandfather, Michael Young 1823-1907, and his brother James Young identified themselves on census forms as shoemakers. The 1st of the family born in Canada was Catherine Young daughter of James circa 1841. Michael and Brother John, settled in Nepean near their brother James who settled in March township. Other brothers were Henry, Wesley, and William. I have information on another John Young family at http://entrenet.com/tal/young/YoungJohn.html Do you know where in Ireland your YOUNGs originate from? Have you found your George and Catherine in the Carelton census records? My GG Grandmother, Sarah Young, died after 1861 and I can find no record of her death or burial. I have church records for the deaths of James and John but no graves are marked in the cemetary. I understand that Anglicans kept poor records of these events in those days and many grave markers did not survive. What was the religion of your YOUNGs?
