Hello to everyone on the list, of which I am a new member. I am looking for any information I can find on my great great grand aunt, Marion Johanna (HAMILTON) BAKER, who moved to Canada in the 1850s with her parents, John Macaulay HAMILTON, M.D., and Marion Sibbald (RAE) HAMILTON, settling in Hamilton, ON. She was born in England in March, 1833, but raised in the Orkney Islands, where all of her siblings were born, as well as her parents. Marion married Godfrey Phipps BAKER on 30 May 1861, in Hamilton (listed in excerpt from Hamilton Evening Times). I am hoping to find information about this couple and their descendants. I have a fair amount already. G.P. Baker was postmaster in Ottawa for some years. I have listings for the 1871 and 1881 Census returns, with the following children listed: George William & Frederick C. (from previous marriage), Marion E., Godfrey P., Dorcas P., Hugh C., Massey W., John Macaulay Hamilton, Fanny M., and Sidney. Marion Johanna BAKER died 5 Mar 1903 and is buried at Beechwood Cemetery. G.P. Baker died 16 Mar 1882 and is also buried in Ottawa, at the Beechwood Cemetery. If anyone can shed any light on this family, I would appreciate it. Thank-you. Mark Huston ([email protected])
