Hi Listers, I am currently researching the family of William Carnwith and Mary Thornton in the Ottawa area. The name Carnwith has been spelt Canwith/Camwith/Canwaith/Camwith/Carnwath and numerous other deviations. I am looking for information on the following individuals:(from the 1871 census) Ottawa, St George's Ward, Div 1, Page 36 and 37 Mary Canwith, F,47, Ireland, Kirk of Scot, w James, M, Ontario, Kirk of Scot, 30,farmer Catherine, F, 24, Ontario, Kof S Anna, F, 22, Ont, KofS Margrate,F, 21,Ont, C of E Lizzie, F, 20, Ont, K of S John, M, 17, Ontario, KofS, tinsmith Martha J,F, 12, Ont K of S, William, M, 10, Ont, K of S, This family originally appears in the 1861 census for Ramsey Twp, Lanark Co. with the addition of William Canwith 47, brewer, Ireland. It appears that after William died(sometime between 1861 and 1871) Mary and her family went to live with her eldest son James in Ottawa(James does not appear in the 1861 Ramsey Twp census). William appearred to have two brothers(also in the Perth area). Their names were John and Charles. I have noticed that there are numerous Carnwaths buried in Beechwood Cemetery. My great grandparents family bible lists Mary Carnwith's place of burial as Ottawa. My great grandmother was Martha Jane Carnwith b. 12 May 1859 in Perth and d. 24 Dec 1919 in Toronto. Mary married Alexander Taylor of Ottawa 28 Apr 1879. Alexander died and Martha married by great grandfather William Stuart Staughton 26 Dec. 1883 in Toronto. Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Anne Reynolds Mt. Albert, Ontario
