    3. Thanks Kathie and Muriel, I have replied to the CBC with the following comments. ---------- To follow up with your story on the 2006 Census forms being online, you state at the bottom of the story that ".. the census this year include a question about whether respondents agree that their information can be publicly released.. for the benefit of genealogists". I think a great number of people are unaware of how important a role the census plays in genealogy research - tracing your roots. I have managed to trace back my family to the turn of the 19th century as a result of the Canada census. You can literally follow your ancestors movements at 10 year intervals. In 1891 my GGGrandfather and his family were living in Nepean. It shows his date of birth, the ages of his spouse and children, and even his occupation. The same family with eveyone 10 years older is shown in the Dalhousie Ward of Ottawa in 1901, with two sons married and living in the same ward. In 1911, my aunts and uncles start to appear as children of these sons. My father was born in 1912 and I cannot wait until the 1921 census is released to see his name. The census is but one source of information that leads us family tree researchers to other records such as birth and death registrations, immigration records that tell us which of our ancetors made the journey to Canada from Europe, and marriage records in both city hall archives and parrishes across the land. All of these records must be made public to us researchers to enable us to draw a clear picture of what our family was like hundreds of years before us. ----------- Sandy On 4/28/06, Muriel M.
