    3. And to add to what has already been given you: Julia Frances Darling, born Jan, 1845 in Macon, Michigan, may be found with her parents Henry and Matilda (Osborn) Darling in both the 1850 and 1860 Macon, Michigan censuses (Eugene is 18 yrs old in the 1860 Baltimore, Maryland census, boarding with the David Jung family). According to the Michigan state records Julia was married 5 Nov. 1866 to Eugene Haanel. They are in the 1870 Albion, Michigan census with 2 yr old Florence and 8 month old Grace. As they were enumerated in June of 1870, it is fairly obvious that Grace was born in 1869. Eugene and Julia are in the 1881 Coburg, Northumberland W., Ontario census (as Haariel!) They are in the 1900 Syracuse, New York census with Julia saying that she has had 7 children but just 6 still survive by 1900. Julia's parents were born (Henry in Connecticutt) and (Matilda in New York). Eugene's parents were Franz Haanel, born in Austria and Anna Herde, born in Prussia. The names are from Eugene's Ontario death record which gives the reverse for where his parents were born but the info was provided by one of Eugene's sons. In the 1900 census, Eugene gives the birthplace of his dad as Austria and of his mother as Prussia, therefore I would gather that he knew their birthplaces whereas a grandchild of theirs might not be as certain. Hope this helps out, Sue Eugene was born in Germany on 24 May 1841.
