Hi Peggy, It may be worth your effort to find the book as I have discovered a few mentions in the index for 'James Johnston'.......not sure if any refer to your family but I will list a few examples to tempt you. (numbers refer to pages in the book) (Groves not found in index): >James Johnston, Gloucester pioneer:searching his location of "Hardscrabble"166-7 covered wagon trek to Gloucester wilderness (Johnston Corners), 183; photo of homestead (183) >Johnston's Corners, (Gloucester) ,162; (photo), 182, 183-6 >Johnston, James (North Gower): store and hotel, 380-1, 383 >Johnston, James, Member for Carleton: lost his parliamentary seat after a drinking bout, 29, 353-4 Some other Johnston names include: Robert......first settler in Huntley Erskine........a number of pages Joseph......Nepean Johnston's Tavern in Marlborough. Hope some of these are of interest to you. If nothing else, I think the book really gives a good overview of the early settlers in Carleton. I found it really interesting to read. Judy ***** Hi Judy, I have heard lots about the Carleton Saga. Would you be able to check if James Johnston and his wife Margaret Jane Groves are in it. Margaret Jane died in 1845 and James remarried to another Margaret probably within the year. James himself died in Jan 1870. I have been unable to find anything on the second family and wonder if they moved to another parish or township. His first children were baptised in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Gloucester twp, Carleton County, Ontario. Thanks so much, Peggy
