    1. [CAN-ONT-CARLETON] Re: A Bit About Me -- all except the years!!!
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To Gwen and all on the Carleton list:- It is nice to know about others on the same lists so bear with me!!! I was born near Liverpool, Nova Scotia X years ago, only girl in my family -- but four younger brothers (FARQUHAR). At the early age of 16 I started training as a newspaper printer, linotype and other out-of-date equipment, worked for various newspapers in Nova Scotia. One very interesting period was during World War II serving as a censorship and intelligence person -- even transcriving in Mi'kmaq! {Other languages would be heard and translated] My husband and I married way back in 1945 after both of us were out of the Navy. Children born in Nova Scotia include my two sons, Don and Randy, and my daughter Lynden. We moved to Brampton, Ontario in 1953 and believe it or not, met Senator Lorna Milne as a friend before she was appointed as that. Newspaper work continued, and finally I decided to use my talents of writing to put it all together -- family history, research and books. In March 1999 Senator Lorna Milne phoned me from Ottawa (I thought she was calling from a few blocks away). Lorna was interested in starting a new project, asked for my assistance --you guessed it, hoping for release of the Post-1901 Census Records. I am not certain if Lorna complimented me when she told me "you are about the only one who can stir up Canada from coast to coast!" You guessed it -- ready for a challenge!! I put brief notes on NOVA-SCOTIA and LUNEN-LINKS lists, the only ones I belonged to. The first one to answer my call for HELP was Gordon Watts -- the one who looks after the pages. Other became members of the Canada Census Committee -- all of us had been working on our own towards release of census. Together, we are making progress, and just this week, more than one OGS branch has linked to census pages, often better than postings which may be missed. Personally, I am the co-ordinator of 150 knitters for our local hospital, touques and bootees for newborns. I have been a member of the Rebekah Lodge since 1949 -- cannot seem to give away my job as secretary. My husband is now at Sunnybrook Veteran's Wing with dementia -- I have had the fun of "scrounging" for patio furniture for the new unit, the Dorothy Machem Unit -- the budget gave out so I have been getting donations at present. Still working at changing the colour schemes of the Member of Parliament and the new Senators Scoreboards -- only gold and red should be there! Possibly my car, new to me, tells more about me -- Pontiac Grand Am SE, complete with sun-roof and spoilers! Not to forget one main item -- I am the one who receives signed petitions for Senator Lorna Milne -- from Canada and even from South Africa!!! Hope to hear from many! Muriel M.
