The family spelling today is Whelan but I have come across some information with the spelling of Whalen Matthew Whalen born about 1823 Wexford Ireland married 1852 Margaret Hutchingame born about 1822 Ottawa, Ontario died 17 September 1858 They had the following children James born abt 1843 died 14 July 1873 Thomas Patrick Whalen born abt 1845 died 1917 (my great grandfather) married Mary McGuire John Whalen born about 1846 Matthew Whalen born about 1848 Mary Whalen born about 1850 Charles Whalen born about 1852 Margaret Whalen born about 1856 Matthew Whalen born abt 17 June 1858 died 27 Aug 1858 Matthew then had a second marriage about 1862 to Mary Dewan birth about 1831 Ottawa, Ontario died 10 Dec 1910 They had 6 children Catherine Whalen birth about 1863 died 23 Jan 1954 Margaret Whalen birth about 1864 Mary A. Whalen birth about 1866 died 19 Oct 1930 Matthew J. Whalen birth about 1868 died 15 Feb 1898 Morris Whalen birth about 1870 Lawrence Whalen birth about 1874 from the 1st marriage Thomas Patrick Whalen married Mary McGuire dau of Hugh McGuire and Mary Early and they had 3 children Matthew JJ Whelan 1881-1935 never married M. Margaret Whelan 1886-1970 never married Thomas Hugh Whelan 1887-1946 married Dec 1923 Anne E. Brown 1888-1980 (my grandparents) This has been one of my brick walls, I don't have information on spouses or children for any of the people above any information would be most appreciated.
