Hi Gail: I believe that three of the families into which your Whelans married may have had a common neighbourhood background on the Manotick Station Road in the 1800's. The Dewans came from County Tipperary around 1828 (spelled DUAN on the 1829 McCabe List) and settled along the Manotick Station Road, east side, between what is today the Gough Road and the Snake Island Road. The Hutchingames were (I think) located where the Orange Lodge is shown on Belden's 1879 map of Osgoode Township. Also on the Manotick Station Road, but on the west side. The early Early (sorry, can't resist the pun) family also lived on the Manotick Station Road. There is a Patrick Early buried with his sister Ellen Burns at St. John's Cemetery in Enniskerry. There are also many Dewans in that cemetery. I probably have other info around here and there are some web pages regarding these families at www.bytown.net where you'll find a search engine to find your surnames. There were also Whelans and McGuires in the neighbourhood, possibly buried at Our Lady of the Visitation at nearby South Gloucester. ...
