    1. [CAN-ONT-CARLETON] McEVOY, DOYLE, LARKIN
    2. Jaimie McEvoy
    3. Hello, I am visiting Ottawa for a bit from Vancouver. I am interested in talking with any McEvoy researchers. Here are my interests: Patrick McEVOY, born 17 March 1810, Kilkenny, Ireland, died 9 January 1902, married 5 November 1844 in Ottawa, Cecelia DOYLE, born about 1816, Ireland, died about 1886. They settled and farmed in Osgoode. I am descended from Patrick's son, James McEVOY, born 28 May 1862 in Osgoode, married at Our Lady of Visitation, South Gloucester, 24 September 1890, Catherine LARKIN, born about 1862, South Osgoode, died 13 October 1915 in Ottawa. The parents of Cecelia DOYLE were Sylvester DOYLE, born about 1799, County Wexford, Ireland, married Mary BAILEY, born about 1797, County Wexford, Ireland, died 2 Feb 1883, Osgoode. They settled in Osgoode in the 1830s. The parents of Catherine LARKIN were Mathew LARKIN, born about 1821, Ireland, married Margaret O'BRIEN, born about 1836, Ireland, died about 1930, Gloucester. I would be glad to be in touch with anyone interested in these lines, and have time to have coffee before I leave Ottawa to go back to Vancouver. 2. alexsandra k. stewart
    3. DELANEY, Thomas b abt 1806 in Ireland. possibly Kilkeney Married to a woman named Mary, b abt 1820. Her last name and their parents unknown. They left Ireland between 1841 and 1845, with 3 children: Catherine, abt 1839 and twins Edward and Thomas, b abt 1841. Settled in Nepean Twp, Carleton County. Catherine married Charles W. HARRISON November 10, 1873 in Ottawa City. Had at least 4 more children in Canada: John, b abt 1846 John married Theresa FULFORD, July 27, 1882 at Alymer, or Alymer Road, Bytown. He was killed at Frog Lake, NWT, now Sask in April 1885 (2nd Riel Rebellion/Uprising). James DELANEY, b abt 1847. These ages and location based on 1851 census. Other children are Mary Ellen DELANEY, married O'BRIEN and lived in Bay City MI. and an unknown daughter who became a nun -- possibly a Dominican and family story says went to India. In chapter 5, in the section on Gloucester, p 211, of The Carleton Saga, by Walker, H and O: the DELANEY family had a homestead on the Renaud Road. That implies they moved between 1851 and 1885, but I don't know -- it may be that the area was divided into additional towns and townships. Looking to fill in lots of gaps, and any information these names/families greatly appreciated. thanks, Alexsandra -- Alexsandra K. Stewart Pancultural Associates, Inc. 3. Good morning all, My g-grandfather lived in Carleton Place (born in New York State buried in Carleton Place) and had 10 children, some of which were born in Carleton Place. Is there anyone out there that might connect with or know of the following people? Emma Elizabeth Dougherty - b. 18 Feb 1874 Caroline Dougherty - b. abt 1876 Annie E. Dougherty - b. abt 1878 Mary Louisa Dougherty - b. 6 Jan 1880 Edna J. Dougherty - b. 13 May 1882 James Thomas Dougherty - my grandfather - b. 7 June 1884 Florence Isabella Dougherty - b. 4 Sep 1887 George W. Dougherty - 20 Mar 1889 Martha Dougherty - b. abt 1891 Robert H. Dougherty - b. 12 Aug 1892 Another question.... I live in Virginia, USA, and am having trouble understanding what 'Carleton Place' is. Let me explain. In the USA you can live in a TOWN which can be within a COUNTY which is within a STATE. For my g-grandfather I show a place of death as CARLETON PLACE, BECKWITH TWP, LANARK CO, ONTARIO, CANADA. That sounds like Beckwith is the TOWN so what is CARLETON PLACE? Thanks for the help! 2. Al Lewis
    3. Hi Gwen and other listers. Thanks for taking on this new list Gwen. I'm interested in the history of the Irish who came to Carleton County / Bytown. My Web Site is shown below - it contains genealogy information and e-mail contacts for many of the early Irish families in this area, but we're always looking for more contributions! You can search for a surname, geographic area (e.g. Tipperary, Huntley, etc), or a subject matter (e.g. famine) at the search engine page (below). Good Luck Gwen, and have fun with this list - it promises to be interesting. ... 3. Gwen; Do you have the names of all 11 children - I would be interested. There are only 4 in the book of "Pioneer Families & Early Settler of Huntley Township". Mind you there are 5 from Elizabeth's first marriage to Williams Hayes. My goodness, the poor woman must have died young - that would make 16 children! 3. Hi Everyone I just wanted to introduce myself. I have been doing genealogy seriously for a little over a year now. I am a wife, mother, and grandmother. My family came from around the Carelton area on both sides. I am looking for information on Patrick William Brennan who married Isabella Myles, my grandfather's parents. Patrick's family came over from Ireland about 1887. His family included his parents Paul Brennan and Mary Murray, and his siblings James, John, Paul, Timothy, and Mary. They all married and settled in the Carelton County area but I'm not sure where. All the sons worked for the railroad. As a matter of fact Paul was killed in a railroad accident and Patrick lost a leg in an accident. Patrick and Isabella had 7 children; Peter, Annie, Pearl, Veronica (Ronnie), Mildred, Marion, and James (my grandfather). The other branches from that area are my grandmother's parents and families. Her parents are Arthur Damian LeBlanc and Suzannah Devine. Arthur came from Quebec and settled in Fallowfield where he met and married Suzannah. They raised their family in Fallowfield where he was choir master and she worked actively in the Catholic community. All the daughters were in the choir. He apprenticed under the local blacksmith and opened his own business. They had the following children: May Cecilia, Agatha Ellen, Suzannah Clemence, James Arthur, Veronique Bridget Catherine (Vernic), and Agnes Bertha (my grandmother). Suzannah is the daughter of James Devine and Ellen Caroline Barton. I also have Myles from Osgoode but I don't know if that is in Carelton County or not. I any of these names are familiar I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks for the warm welcome Gwen. I'm glad I found this group. 3. To all- Many, many thanks for the numerous faxes sent to me -- we do not know how many faxes Mr. Rock received (he will never tell) -- but he must know by now WE want the Post-1901 census released. I agree with Gordon Watts -- on to another step! Muriel M. Davidson muriel_davidson@sympatico.ca Co-Chair, Canada Census Committee Brampton, Ontario ------------------------------------- Greetings All. As our effort of the past week, faxing Industry Minister Allan Rock to encourage him to effect immediate transfer of Historic Census records to the National Archives was intended to be a short term exercise, we will now bring it to a halt. We thank all of those who sent their fax. Although we have no way of knowing how many faxes were actually sent, we believe that our effort was a success. I had a report over the weekend that both the Ministry fax, and Mr. Rock's office fax had stopped receiving. My assumption is that both machines had run out of paper which would indicate that they had been busy. Thank you all for your support. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. 1. [CAN-ONT-CARLETON] Everyone Reads A Newspaper -- Many Accept Letters to the Editor
    2. Muriel M. Davidson
    3. To all:- We have had FUN sending simple, polite faxes to The Hon. Allan Rock so how about another tactic -- PUBLICITY!! If you are reading this -- please remember many are not -- they read NEWSPAPERS. http://www.freenet.mb.ca/community/media/newspapers/canada.html The above URL will provide one with newspapers from coast to coast -- Depending on the set-up of the paper, you generally find CONTACT for Letters to The Editor on the Editorial Page (in masthead) or in a special list on the online versions. Petitions are still needed for both House of Commons and Senate http://www.globalgenealogy.com/Census/Petition.htm The usual Letter to the Editor is about 200 words but NEVER ask the newspaper to print "as posted" -- it will be ungently placed in File 13 or you will be charged advertising rates. Very important:- YOUR name, full address and your telephone number so newspapers may check to see if the letter is legitimate. If the editor knows you, and especially if you deliver the letter, you will not be called. If you request, your name will be withheld - a newspaper policy. Please remember, it will take the 200 words (does not include your name) to ask for petitions for release of Post 1901 Canadian census records, including the 1906 and 1911. A tip:- When you finish writing your proposed letter, you will likely find it takes less words to say the same thing if you POWER PACK the first paragraph, should contain Who, What, When, Where and How -- and Why -- as many as applicable. Happy writing -- I will assist any writer! Muriel M. I was wondering who William Oliver Harold was when I see his name, he was a child of Walter and Susie? Thanks so much for answering, I look forward to hearing from you again when you have a chance!
