Hello all. Looking for information on my gggrandparents, Octave Moses Ethier and Philomene Hamiel, born in Carleton c1830. They married c1860, emigrated to Black Brook/Ausable Forks NY. I've tried some searches for birth or marriage records but no luck so far. Thanks. Ray MacDonald
Can anyone tell me what newspaper to locate for an obituary for Torbolton in 1911? Thanks, Patricia

For those of you who are interested, I have transcribed the deaths that were registered in 1900 for the township of Fitzroy, Carleton county. They were taken from the Archives of Ontario microfilm MS 935 Reel 95. I am a regular user of my local library’s interlibrary loan service for microfilms (I don’t know what I would do without it!). I figured that since I had gone to the trouble of ordering the things (they take about a month to come in, though I do have them at my disposal for 2 weeks) I should put them to good use. So I have started to transcribe what I can from the reel (or reel’s) that I’ve ordered. I’ve never done anything like this before (you guys get to be the guinea pigs <she says with an evil grin>), so please let me know if the format that I’ve put them in is easy to understand. If not, I’m open to any suggestions that would improve it. You’ll be hearing from me about once a month from now on. I’ve just sent away for a new batch of microfilm (I have a limit of only three reels a shot, unfortunately). However, if anyone would like to make any requests for the next (next) batch (approximately 2 months from now depending when the next ones come in), I’d be more than happy to order them in. However, I’m only working on death registrations at the moment. A little reminder: death registrations can be ordered for only the years between 1869 - 1929. Anything before 1869, church records would have to be consulted. Anything after 1929, the Registrar General’s office in Thunder Bay would have to be contacted. (I’m almost finished, don’t worry) :) I’ll be sending the 1900 Fitzroy deaths in another e-mail since I never expected this one to get so long-winded. You know how it is. You think you’re done, then you think of one more thing that you just have to say. And one more thing. And another. And another. <g> Oh, and one more thing... (just kidding!) Cheers, Gwen

Hello List, My name is John Carruthers. I was born in Carp in 1936, son of Everett Carruthers and Kathleen Boot. I am trying to find all the descendants of Noble CARRUTHERS 1809-1883 and his wife Mary Ann ARMSTRONG. They are my great-great-grandparents. My findings so far are on a web site at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~johncarruthers/index.htm#TOC Noble and Mary Ann arrived in Huntley Twp in the summer of 1836. They were married in Ireland just before they came to Canada. Noble and Mary Ann Armstrong had 10 children. Noble then married Judith Moorhead and had another 9 children. My other great-great-grandparents from the Ottawa Valley are Stewart and Eliza GIBSON; Dennis and Jane (CARTER) CAVANAGH; and Andrew and Rebecca (HODGINS) DEUGO. I would welcome any additions or corrections to the Descendants of Noble Carruthers as shown on my web site.
Hello Researchers, I'm looking for any information on my ancestors John Walsh and his wife Ellen Kane. John came from Newcastle Parish, County Tipperary to Richmond in 1816. He was a member of the 99th Regiment of Foot. Does anyone know if there is a history of Richmond and or the 99th Regiment available? I believe John had some land in Goulbourn in the 1820's. I would like to be able to find the name of his parents as well as the names of Ellen's parents and if they had any siblings. Does anyone know if there are any marriage records from the 1820's and the early 1830's. I also would like to find out where and when they were married. They started having children in 1831. Children are George 1831, William 1832, Francis 1834, Susan 1837, Charles 1838, Eliza abt. 1840, Lewis 1842, John abt. 1844, Michael abt. 1848.They came to Wisconsin about 1849. Ellen died in Watertown, Wisconsin on July 28, 1854. If anyone out there can help me please E-mail me. Thank you, speot@intaccess.com

Hello fellow listers, I thought I'd chime in and add my query to the new list. However, I thought I'd keep it brief at first since I have a lot of info to share. Also, check out the info below the list of names. I'm offering to do lookups within this data if anyone is interested. Below are the surnames I am searching for Carleton County. While I do have some from the Ottawa area, most are from the Marlborough Twp. and surrounding areas (i.e. my Ross' are not the Scotland Ross' from Ottawa). I've noted an "*" next to the names that are main lines of ancestry for me. If any of these look familiar, please email me and I will share with you what I have to see if there are any connections. Hello listers: Researching FALLS, HERRON, KEMP, McKinnon Samuel FALLS, b approx 1806, County Tyrone, Ireland, emigrated to Canada 1823-25 (McCabe list) He settled in Huntley township, married Margaret Kemp (date & place unknown), religion was Presbyterian on 1851 census and subsequently Wesleyan Methodist on future censuses. He is buried in the United church cemetery in Carp. I believe William Falls, buried in the Presbyterian cemetery in Carp was a half-brother to Samuel, as he emigrated to Canada later. I am wondering if anyone knows what was the closest Protestant church approx. 1836 to look for marriage records for Samuel Falls and Margaret Kemp? Would appreciate learning more about Huntley's early history-who were the earliest settlers.etc. Linda Falls

<< Subj: Date: 05/17/01 6:46:19 AM Pacific Daylight Time From: salmonandcrow@hotmail.com (Jaimie McEvoy) To: CAN-ONT-CARLETON-L-request@rootsweb.com I am visiting Ottawa for the next week, and am currently in town. I had planned to go to St. John's cemetary in Osgoode, as well as the Osgoode Museum and South Gloucester. Unfortunately, plans for a ride out to St. John's have fallen through. Can anyone help? I would be very grateful to anyone who might be happy to accompany and drive a fellow genealogist who might have an interest in those places. I can be reached by sending an email, or can be called on my cell phone at 604-517-1337. Hoping in Ottawa, Jaimie McEvoy, Ottawa, Ontario _______________________ >>
Hi Gwen, Carleton Place is the town, Beckwith is the township, Lanark is the county and Ontario is the province. The township is just one extra division (and one more thing for researchers to keep track of...) I live in Virginia, USA, and am having trouble understanding what 'Carleton Place' is. Let me explain. In the USA you can live in a TOWN which can be within a COUNTY which is within a STATE. For my g-grandfather I show a place of death as CARLETON PLACE, BECKWITH TWP, LANARK CO, ONTARIO, CANADA. That sounds like Beckwith is the TOWN so what is CARLETON PLACE? >>
Gwen, wishing you all the best for the CAN-ONT-CARLETON mailing list. I have been working on the Sharkey/Moore family history for a little over a year and would be pleased to share information. This Moore family seems to begin in the Manotick Station area with Samuel Moore (1806-1888) and his wife Ann Gamble (1806-1896). Their children were (as far as I can figure out): Eliza Moore (1827-1853), John Moore (1828 died in infancy at sea), Thomas Moore (1834-1910), Andrew Moore (1839-????), Mary Moore (1840-1908), Sarah Moore (1842-1917), Nathaniel Moore (1844-1922), Annie Moore, (1847-1939). Any and all help would be gratefully appreciated. -- "It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others." Wm. G.
